Vogue France November 2021 : Aya Nakamura by Carlijn Jacobs

A bittersweet moment. My one and only true fashion magazine from the get-go has been Vogue Paris, I've spent years defending Emmanuelle Alt and the sudden name change and the fact Alt is out STILL feels like a kick in the stomach - but there's no denying the fact this is a strong cover.

I understand what you mean, but the fact that Vogue Paris was so lack of diversity can be one single reason to move on.
hopefully there will still be lost of fashion contents like before, as we all liked, but also more diversity.

Yes, new era, come through! This cover exceeded my expectations, granted I practically had none. There's something bold and epic about it. Not quite VI, more painterly in a Vreeland way.
Once again the synergy between stylists and photographers is truly something special. GKJ's work with Tyler Mitchell with an important subject as Kamala Harris was as dull as a wet week, yet look at this cover!

I'm ready for Vogue France. I'm ready for Eugenie!

This isn't bad, the seems pretty run of the mill Vogue Paris actually with less text

Never, lol. Maybe VP under JJB yes, actually now it reminds me of Audrey Marnay's millennium cover.
But stylistically speaking, Emmanuelle Alt would never run a cover like this. It's not 80s for starters, more 60s? That cancels this cover right out.

Gorgeous cover! Absolutely love it. It's very strange seeing 'France' instead of 'Paris' inside the 'O', it sticks out so much because I'm just not used to it yet, but I suppose in time it'll feel more familiar.

Excited to see more from the issue, but really enjoying this so far - the minimal layout is really working for me, I love the typography choices.

Good start for this new era, fantastic cover! can’t wait for the rest of the content.

This is rather wonderful, can't wait to pick up a few copies!

What a great start. It's fresh, it's stunning. Love the colors, the minimalist layout, the pose, everything about this is gorgeous

Can't wait to see what's inside the issue!

It is a strong cover, i don’t like the post production on the image and the gradient background but it is good, maybe better than expected and for sure better than VI.

wondering what are the opinions of @GivenchyAddict and @Lola701

I like the cover! It’s stunning and it’s a great way to mark the start of the new era.
They did a make over and that’s what I think is working here. She is not very VP in terms of aesthetic in the same way as Rihanna or even Marion Cotillard are not really in that vibe. So what works for them is the make over.

She looks sublime.

I’ll wait for 6 months before having a real idea of what this new Vogue will be. Aya is the larger than life cultural phenomenon and so, she has that very « pop » cover. I’m waiting on the fashion content, the models and stylists chosen for the magazine.

I hope this new Vogue will open doors to French talents. We want diversity yes, but we also want to perpetuate a certain idea of French style. Like we don’t need Edward to style covers. It’s also maybe time to have Benjamin Bruno return in the magazine, have some talented French, Asian or Arabs black stylists who are making their mark internationally. I think Melanie H, Carine’s former assistant is maybe the last Asian contributor to the magazine.
And I want Carlyne Back!

This is decadent. I never thought that this would be good!

My only concern is that it may be more focused on celebrities rather than fashion itself which makes this edition (or perhaps Vogue Paris) unique.

Based on the fact that the crew behind this cover is all-female, I get the feeling that Eugénie's VP will be pro-women. Which is not to say men will be barred, but just that she'll prioritise that. Keen to see how it all takes shape.

This is f***ing great and I hope it kinda silicones the initial skeptics for another month at least! haha

I hope Melanie Huynh comeback to Vogue. Or I want Dan Sablon adapt himself into Vogue aesthetic.

What excited me is not only diversity in terms of cover stars and models inside the editorials. But also I hope with Eugénie era the stylists have more freedom to express their POV.

It is a good cover. A Balenciaga paid one it seems. I love Carlijn for M le Monde not for Vogue France... This background is definitely a no.

I am still quite excited by Vogue France and what it can bring in terms of fashion content. My only concern is CN bringing GKJ for VF while we have talents here that could have done something great.

So far GKJ did one good editorial and it was with Leibovitz IMO...

We will see. I’m pro women for obvious reasons but I think the POV of men is always welcomed. And Vogue Paris/France has that heritage that allows talents to really explore their creativity. With women, styling is often linked to a certain projection of their personal style…When with men, we have sometimes more of an exercise de style that creates a great balance. Joe McKenna or Karl Templer’s contribution to Vogue Paris really worked for the best of the magazine…

I hope too but I don’t want Vogue to become that incubator of « diversity » where everybody just come to « test water ». We need a real POV that can be credible for VP. Like I don’t want them to hire a black stylist or an Asian stylist just to style a black/Asian or Arab girl in jeans and tshirts while trying to recreate a Alt moment.

Dan indeed is talented and versatile.

This cover makes me sad in a way because I suddenly Eugénie has made Emmanuelle’s Vogue outdated.

It’s interesting to note that Emmanuelle never really took a strong controversial risk in terms of covers. Even when she had a transgender woman on the cover, it was still quite in line with what she did usually. Carine had moments like Andre J, the whole issue of Liya or even the cover of Paris Hilton that really said something about her POV.

This is a cover people will talk about, something Emmanuelle never had.
