Vogue France November 2021 : Aya Nakamura by Carlijn Jacobs

It is a good cover. A Balenciaga paid one it seems. I love Carlijn for M le Monde not for Vogue France... This background is definitely a no.

I am still quite excited by Vogue France and what it can bring in terms of fashion content. My only concern is CN bringing GKJ for VF while we have talents here that could have done something great.

So far GKJ did one good editorial and it was with Leibovitz IMO...
I doubt. Let’s remember that the Fashion is lead by Virginia Smith of American Vogue , she choose who will be stylist and the photographer. So I don’t have that kind of expectation

Grace Jones is another icon that has been done to death. It’s tired. Vogue Paris has published countless similar images in the past.
I don’t see Grace Jones tho. I mean the pose, the outfit and all seems like a attempt to do a modern version of classic Couture shoot.

Aya has that very « bad b*tch » IG US Girls attitude and glamour is not something that has ever been explored for her so this is actually fresh.

So gorgeous! I’m really in love with this cover, wow. It’s exceeded my expectations, I can’t wait to see what Vogue France brings us now

Still tame. We haven't even heard from the Trumpettes yet, lol. Their comments are still coming.

Who are the Trumpettes on this forum? Or do you mean from amongst the greater public?

Oh my goodness. What’s going on? I’m so used to opening Vogue magazine threads and being left feeling frustrated. But I’m seeing some fantastic Vogue covers today! This one is no exception! Absolutely stunning!

Not exactly awe-inspiring but a very good image (you can't go wrong with that Balenciaga couture collection it seems). Facially she does indeed resemble Grace Jones so much, at least here.

I'm apprehensive as well about having the mediocre GKJ on board but let's see what the next few issues have to offer. They have very tough competition with M Le Monde of course, which is in its own league by today's standards.

It's a beautiful picture, it really shines. I like the late seventies + oriental vibes from this. I was expecting a cover with lots of text and the same font as British Vogue, but this is unique. In print will be so dreamy. I hope to see this in pressreader soon.

It’s a shame that the clothing is swallowing her up a bit but she looks stunning! The cover as a whole is surprising… a unique aesthetic.

A very strong cover image indeed.

But the art direction needs serious uplifting. The font.... the color used for the masthead...

Also, there's something about it that's not French Vogue. Maybe its a good thing. Maybe it not. we'll see.

Based on the fact that the crew behind this cover is all-female, I get the feeling that Eugénie's VP will be pro-women. Which is not to say men will be barred, but just that she'll prioritise that. Keen to see how it all takes shape.

This is what's confusing. Does Eugenie get a hand in the model, concept, photographer +++?

If so, then why is she not Editor in Chief?

I don’t think she has nothing to choose. I think she only name whats is going on in France to Anna, Edward, Juan and Virginia.

For the cover she can suggest things and show an idea of the team to her bosses (i don't think edward or Anna listening to Aya's music tbh), also she is in charge to build the issue, the magazine is not only the cover, so she must be in charge of that mostly. It's like a manage/coordinator
