Vogue Italia June 2011 : Candice Huffine, Tara-Lynn & Robyn Lawley by Steven Meisel

I love the idea of the cover, Vogue Italia always suriprises me. They often put atypical models on the cover and this is why I love the magazine so much. I think Franca is an amazing EIC

i dont get the whole hype about alexa chung; i would have preferred an actual model to be in the editorial...oh well.

as for the cover, my judgement might be a bit biased because i love steven meisel's work...i really like it lol

Regarding Lawley's legs akimbo pose on the Vogue cover, according to her Australian agent, Meisel asked Lawley to sit (words to the effect), "How you would sit if you were a really powerful person". [via Frockwriter.com]

The second shot posted (of Lawley) is from a second editorial shot by Pierpaulo Ferrari.

Quite simply, for me this is a stunning cover, cant wait to get this issue.

Uh, really? Could frockwrtier's source be wrong? Because it looks as though Robyn's wearing almost the exact same lingerie as the cover shot and the same hair style, black & white imagery, with a white border, and everything. Obviously I haven't seen the full editorials, but from these previews, surely if they were having two editorials, they could have thought of another concept for 'plus size' girls. At least I'd hope.

HA! This is Meisel at his BEST. Stir up a little controversy with the storytelling. The food is pure whimsy for me. Love it.

and who's saying that using 3 plus size models for a cover is wrong????....but when you put all three of them together it becomes quite clear that he's marketing something considered a "stereotype"....

I have to agree with you Riseup. It's very gimmicky. I doubt Vogue Italia is going to start featuring plus size models regularly (just look at the lack of black models after The Black Issue) so I'm kind of whatever about it.

Of course I'm glad that they are featuring a different body type than what we normally see, but just having one issue out of 129399449 doesn't make a significant impact/statement.

gimmicky, start integrating these girls naturally and stop making such a big fuss about it and then I'll start believing that barrier has fallen

..... we have all been bombarded with one kind of model/look for such a long time in magazines that things that are the norm in reality becomes abnormal in magazines. black models or curvy models unless your a super naomi/liya/iman etc or famous sophie dahl/crystal etc your excepted and the celebrities get a free pass. but for an up and comer in either category it's like they have to give readers a reason and validation for you to be there other than the fact that your just doing your job... modelling. it's either black magic or hypnotic curves kind of headlines to sell you/show you diversity which is a shame the same goes for asian models too.

vogue italia are not doing anything groundbreaking in the extreme, they are just giving us everything that is out there. i don't think of the other world famous vogue magazines would put 3 virtually unknown curvy models on their covers like this. so bravo VI  and keep the diversity issues coming

The source (I wouldn't have posted unless I thought it was verified info the article) is the model's agent. I'd like to think they know what their models are doing :innocent: Also, it can be VI's decision to set up the pages to be BW/bordered, etc - it is not necessarily the photographer who decides it all. It may be this is the only pic that references the styling of the cover.

Beautiful cover. The girls look really good, I love Robyn's expression.
The cover text should always be in italian.

Great cover! I love it, and it brings a certain vintage feeling, which is great. I've never heard anything about them but I don't mind. Can't wait to see more.

That is beautiful. I for one don't appreciate black and white photography as I've said many times but I can't help but be stunned by this editorial. And the nudity is not too vulgar like Playboy/FHM.

The editorial is very sensual & sexy, the location however is what keeps this edit from being vulgar, whorish, p*rn etc. Also, making it somehow romantic.
