Vogue Italia June 2011 : Candice Huffine, Tara-Lynn & Robyn Lawley by Steven Meisel

Possibly. But it's hard not to see it as stereotype when vogue.it even has sections on its websites called "Vogue Black" and "Vogue Curvy". I just don't see why these 'minorities' can't be integrated into a normal issue without being treated like some sort of anomaly that need their own categories. But maybe that's just me. It would just seem a lot more credible to me if VI featured them regularly, but maybe they will start doing that from now on (which I don't quite believe).

I agree with everything said in this post.

It's certainly a very different cover from what i've ever seen at VI, but i like it.

You know, I've just read through this and I hadn't even noticed the plates with food on them  and why the hell should I, when there are stunning women looking glamorous and provocative and who really cares anyway.:D

agreed. I think some people pay attention to the mundane, when I am simply captivated by the glamour of it all. The girl in the middle is just gorgeous.

Love the styling and setting of the cover. Plus the girls look awesome!

These are the last covers that VI ran with a larger model - Feb and April 2000 with Sophie Dahl:

Has VI moved forwards or backwards?

Is my Daniela Di' Jesus in this issue? she's curvy too.

^^ Neither of those girls really look plus size, but I guess that's the world of fashion.

Rather than having these issues dedicated to a specific demographic, it would be much more affective to feature them on a regular basis if the industry is truly serious and committed to making a change and not simply a statement (but I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death). Who knows when the next time we'll see curvy girls in VI again.

"We eat too. We wear lingerie too. We can be sexy too." That's nice. Now, I don't mean this in a critical, passive-aggressive way but would someone care to explain to me the deeper meaning behind this photo. I'm too brain-damaged today to ruminate on it, so please enlighten me (even though I suspect that the message will still not be very clever, provocative, or interesting... I'd very much like to be proven wrong as I adore this image).

I get that some people are upset that they put the models in lingerie, but I feel like it was a no-win situation for Meisel and co. If they were to cover the girls up, people would be complaining that they're trying to hide their bodies and thus contribute to the idea that big girls should be ashamed of their bodies. Or something to that effect.

I thought the first one is Gemma & the second is Stam.

Speaking of Gemma, with her "new" look, she would really suit this cover. (I don't mean that as an insult.)

It wouldn't hurt either is a plus-sized model of color would be added.(Toccara, anyone?)

Basically then, you agree that is it an individual perspective as to whether one thing is more or less sexual than another?

Can we ALL agree then that this is the case and put that particular argument to bed and get back to looking at pretty ladies?

Sorry Psylocke, that wasn't meant to be quite so directed at you - just taking the opportunity presented to point out that what I think is NOT what everyone else thinks, and vice versa...so the 'what is sexy/sexual/too sexual' debate is opinion verses opinion, not fact.

Love the cover. Mr Meisel never ceases to amaze me.

why are plus sized models always shown in their undies? is it to prove to the world that they have breasts and curves?

i'd be more fulfilled if they wore the same designer clothing that a regular model would have worn if she were on the cover.

So what if there is food on the table? Who cares? smh.

They look gorgeous.

This cover doesn't do anything for me. I don't like it or hate it.

I'm sorry, but they all look like hoochies. This is probably the worst cover this year.

I have a mixed feeling about the cover and I have no clue about the models before I read that they're the plus size models
