There was an article, last weekend, in the Style supplement of The Sunday Times, which talked about the impact of Agyness's crop - and gave me the name I was looking for, as I've been trying to recall the name of the model this look belonged to, back then - Jenny Howarth.
Short hair’s latest fashion moment came about when Agyness Deyn, the 20-year-old model du jour, traded her shoulder-length hair for a masculine platinum crop, inspired by the 1980s model Jenny Howarth. Her career rocketed. “I cut Agyness’s hair off into a boyish, Joan of Arc, short-up-the-back style for a shoot I did with Mario Testino,” says the hairstylist Sam McKnight, “and suddenly she transformed and really started working it for the camera.”
The Clash-loving Mancunian is now starring on the runways of Lanvin, Giles and Chanel, has become the muse of American Vogue’s creative director, Grace Coddington, and is shooting with all the right people, including Britain’s hottest image-maker, Nick Knight. She has even graced the cover of Italian Vogue. Whether this haircut will be known as the Agyness remains to be seen, but the girl with the silky white shorn hair is certainly causing a stir.
