Vogue Paris June/July 2006 : Jennifer Connelly by David Sims

here i go again, on my own...

You guys are freakin' me out with your 'I love Jennifer Connelly" ! You're starting to sound pretty obsessive with little else to do with your time.:innocent:

I don't have to see the cover before I judge. I know it will look good. French Vogue uses the best photographers and stylists. I hate Sharon Stone, but she looked undoubtedly good on Vogue's cover a few months ago.

My point is American actressess on magazine covers are becoming ubiquitous. French Vogue is influential enough to put anyone on the cover (even an unknown dare I say) and the sales would not slump. It is a fashion bible with beautiful editorials and nothing can change that.

^My point wasn't to rile up support for Jennifer Connolly....!
I was generally wondering whether an actress on a cover is really as bad as all that.
I agree about Paris Vogue....therefore why not have a variety of people on their covers...if (as you said) the cover is well-executed then why not!

The ubiquity only exists amongst mainstream magazines..... there are PLENTY of publications that still use models.....

I think I like model covers better cause when an actress is on the cover, I immideately think "aha she must be endorsing her new movie", not that the creative director actually choose her. Smells pure business. Model on covers somewhat works better for creating the dreamworld fashion is about.

Agree though it's a little harsh to critizise a cover that noone has even seen yet:p

Susie, I think that it's fine with a actresses that are able to make covers look good, such as Uma, Nicole, Scarlett or Mischa. But there are many actresses whose merit does not lie in how they look (or photograph), and therefore their presence on magazine covers is less desirable. Most actresses are not the best photographic models, and if they could be good, they often have too many ideas about what the cover should look like, which is something the editors and photographer would know a lot more about.

I think Jennifer could look good on a cover, although to me, she's very non-communicative and very much the ice queen (in a boring way). But that could make a nice chilling summer cover  I'm pretty sure it'll look good, most VP covers have in the past, with the exception of Maria Carla and Patricia's cover back in Feb.:innocent:

Where did that come from?

I think most of us would much prefer a model on the cover, but this is being discussed to death in every single magazine thread. It's getting a little redundant and I think Susie has a valid point. Let's wait for the cover to see what it actually looks like until we start critizing it.

susie - well said, I applaud you :)

Jennifer is one of the most beautiful and intelligent women in show business, and I think she would be a most fascinating subject to interview and photograph. I put all my support behind Carine for choosing someone so worthy.

ikarina1 - I really don't think I (Or most users here) absolutely love her to no end -- I just possess a lot of respect for her and would love to see her on any magazine. It's amazing how low of a profile she manages to keep despite the successes in her career.

iluvjeisa - She indeed perpetuates an "ice queen" image, but I really think that would add to the mystery and intrigue of Vogue Paris that I always enjoyed :)

Even if I haven't seen the cover yet, I think each should stick with his/her industry. Actresses have a HUGE range of publications beggingthem to be on their covers; models have such a shrinking possibility. Actresses are heavily exposed, talk shows, morning shows, entertainment channels, radios, movies-promotions, interviews, covers and now fashion mags covers who dedicate countless of pages to them inside, and now the cover?? That's too much!

Models could use the exposure a fashion mag gets them.

I didn't like it at first glance...
After a few seconds I thought get rid of the hat! ah...
After about a minute I thought oh, wait, the hat actually works... oh, hmm... I like this.

^_^ So there we go.

The hat, it remends me so much of last season's Balenciagas that I'm plainly thinking it is... re: Cosette - I shudder to think what your mind could accomplish in five
