Vogue Portugal March 2017 : Malgosia Bela by Marcin Tyzska

Thanks for responding, Benn98!

When was her "peak"? Like, was she an early 2000s model? When I think of that era, I think Gisele, Liya, Karolina, Carmen, Natalia, Karen, etc. The mid-2000s is all Natasha, Daria, Lara, Raquel, Gemma, Sasha, etc.

Actually, now that I come to think of it, I feel quite the same about Guinevere Van Seenus.

No problem! Look, when she started to get big bookings Maggie Rizer was busy fading out, Gisele, Carmen, and Carolyn booked everything, yet it was also before Karolina and Liya took off. Part of her longevity may be that she was fortunate enough not to form part of a wave (her peak was during the early Brazilian madness - Gisele, Ribeiro, Tavares etc). And she was never the 'girl of the season' type, who you saw everywhere at any given stage, so the industry probably never really got to grow weary of her.

Guinevere van Seenus? Best you ask her biggest supporter on TFS, T-Rex!

Well her campaign for Isabel Marant in 2006/7 Is one of my favourites, ever. Now it looks pretty run of the mill, everyone has used the same formula over and over again, but at the time it was just fastastic. The fact she's a proper glamazon but manages to look so muted if she wishes, makes her a great model.

Malgosia may not be the most conventionally attractive model, but she has the rare ability to project a soulful look, which is ageless and timeless. Whatever era she's recreating, whatever look she's wearing, I find a sense of connection in her eyes that makes me feel like I'm looking at something far more real than a 2D image.

We better not throw names around... If Guinevere Van Seenus walked, she would have the same cult following as MariaCarla. Guinevere is a print cult model, she moves in a different league. She consistently delivers top work since she first started modelling. I would easily place her as the second best post-1990 print model after Kristen McMenamy.

Malgosia has nothing to do with it. She is the model version of Sex and The City. She looks expensive, glamorous, sexy and often books work accordingly. She is an amazing print model but not as consistent nor as regular. Malgosia is a Testino kind of glamazon while Guinevere is Sorrenti's and Roversi's muse (she's an "art model" as someone put it before).

I love the education I'm getting here! Thanks everyone :)

I guess in the early 2000s I was really only following the careers of the Brazilians (have always adored Fernanda Tavares, reeeaaallly would love to see her make a comeback on Versace or something) and then Karolina, Liya, Raquel, etc. Those girls whose careers just exploded and they kind of claimed all the major campaigns for a few years.

I missed these fashion darlings who delivered great print work, but didn't necessarily book the big fashion shows or didn't do VSFS or whatever.

All of those models I can remember clearly when they had their BIG moments - their first few seasons when they came on the scene and became huge names. Actually, now that I come to think of it, I feel quite the same about Guinevere Van Seenus. I know she's certainly an icon amongst fashion followers, but I have no idea when her popularity began or what made her so popular.

I remember she was heavily featured in the 1999 March issue of Italian Vogue, of which she was also on the cover (both main and supplement)
