Peruvian Mario Testino, whom Princess Diana loved to pose for, shot Kate Moss and Amber Valetta on Red Square for the very first cover of Russian Vogue. At first the only backgroundthat interested him was churches, but when visiting Ostankino in the nothern Moscow he fell deeply in love with Count Sheremetev's estate, and even bummed a pair of felt slippers from a museum guard, saying "I have the same parquet at home". Ten years later, from Vogue's anniversary issue, Testino shot the new star Anna Selezneva for the cover: And his image paid tribute both Russian icon painting and the work of Andy Warhol.
Stella McCartney- de-singer, photographer, and champion of animal and human rights- was the guest editor for this issue of Russian Vogue. And this was the first fashion shoot for us. Her subject, of course, was her friend Kate Moss, who was the first at Stella's graduation show. In 2006 when Stella didi the shoot, the press was hounding Kate for drug use. But that didn't stop Stella. She scrooped up Kate and her daighter Lily Grace and took them to St. Barths. "In this shoot Kate Moss in pure innocence", Stella said.
