Vogue Russia January 2018 : Jean Campbell by Matteo Montanari

I like the season appropriate styling and moody weather, but this is not a good cover. It's very much in the style of late 90's photography and it doesn't work for a cover. But I'll take this instead of another Demarchelier studio cover.

What is the identity of this magazine? Each issue looks different from the other. This magazine is lost.

She should have closed her mouth, it´s not a great cover but I like the hair flying and the moody dark sky background a lot.

Their only constant is Demarchelier, which is as depressing as it sounds. I must add that beyond the cover edit there are normally one or more stories which appeal to me.

Vogue Russia's problem was removing the kitsch, the political undertones, the excess glamour from their imagery. That was their biggest mistake. Oh, and putting a beauty editor in charge off a full flegdged fashion magazines. Yes, I still mourn the loss of Alyona! Because now you're essentially left with a bunch of mismatched edits, however good.

This edition could've evolved into a Vogue Ukraine or Portugal if they had the talent. I say talent and not resources, because Ukraine and Portugal produce impactful work with a seemingly average buget.

I don't have anything good to say about it so I will say nothing at all :)

It's not often you see a cover shot that shows bad weather. She looks like a teenager who shouldn't really be out cycling so late on such a cold and windy night. 'Girl goes missing'.

i love this. looks like an old vogue russia cover. but i agree that the magazine's direction is a mess (applies for other editions too)

I like it, but I also think it would look better with her mouth closed.

I do wish her mouth was closed but I actually quite like this.

Preview for February issue : looks like Hartzel by Demarchelier

Print industries by country really baffles me, lol. US Vogue is scraping along with their January issue, but Vogue Russia and China put out supplements and archival features.

Thanks for the review, MagFan! ;) Hope that preview don't materialise.....

Hoped for an edit expanding more on the cover mood. This Porter filler/LA type of wa.nabe indie style is not to my taste. Jean looks as she does 99% of all times, so it's a miss for me.

This shot would have made a much better cover in my opinion:
