I very much enjoyed my initial flick through this issue. I've criticised this magazine a lot in recent years and I am desperate for something new but I am also quite sad to see the end of an era.
There is a fantastic fold out after the editor's letter with all of Alexandra's covers together in rows and it made me very nostalgic to look through them all. I've only been buying the magazine for 9 or so years but I was shocked by how many memories I have linked to specific issues/years of the magazine; holidays, friendships, time at university etc. Seeing them all next to each other like that was very effocative and I had such distinct visions of particular times in my life, even recalling smells that I associate with certain issues which was very strange but pleasantly surprising; I'd sort of forgotten how much this magazine has meant to me as I've grown from a teenager into adulthood. Even though Vogue UK has its faults I was reminded of why I fell in love with fashion and magazines in the first place.
It's a tremendous treat to see Nick Knight in this magazine again, he's an incredible talent that I wish the magazine had made more of in recent years. I was happy to see Testino get two features as well, although he's not the photographer he once was, he's had an incredible relationship with Alexandra's Vogue and it felt right to have him in their twice. It was also fantastic to see Alasdair McLellan and Glen Luchford inside too, but I would've also loved a fantastical Tim Walker shoot to round things off nicely.
All in all I think it's a solid September issue, the team certainly did a great job of making me appreciate the magazine's past but also really look forward to the future. I imagine the next couple of months will be the typical British Vogue that we are used to, but I'm hoping that come the December issue we are offered a really distinct new vision for this magazine.
