Vogue Ukraine

VOGUE will launch in the Ukraine within the next 12 months, following a new license partnership with one of the region's leading media companies, UMH Group.

"The Ukraine is ready for Vogue," said Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive Jonathan Newhouse. "Kiev is booming, and there is a strong market demand for luxury products and the experience Vogue can offer the reader."

Members of Vogue Ukraine's editorial team have not yet been confirmed. It will be the 20th edition of the magazine worldwide.

"A partnership with Condé Nast is a great honour and responsibility for UMH Group," said president of UMH Group Boris Lozhkin. "This will take the media business in Ukraine to a new level, while the launch of Vogue has great significance for the entire luxury market.

Hmm...Ukraine HB Bazaar is actually quite nice so it'll be interesting too see Vogue Ukraine but what I cannot fathom is why there is no Vogue Scandinavia or Vogue Denmark/Sweden?!

YAY, that's great news. I agree with AL92 that HB Ukraine is quite good so it'll be interesting to see where they go with Vogue.

Snejana just HAS to get the debut cover.

Amazing news!! I'm so happy! I think Alla Kostromichova will get the first cover, she's doing all ukranian f. weeks, actually she's the face of ukranian fashion weeks.

It sounds interesting and it's always nice to hear a new Vogue is going to launch. Curious to see their point of view.

why there is no Vogue Scandinavia or Vogue Denmark/Sweden?!
I thought the exact same thing! I really do wonder about it.

Yeah, I'm 'afraid' of that happening. Well, I would be excited for Alla, as you're right, she's been the face of their fashion week for a couple seasons now, but I'd prefer Snejana - Ukraine's only truly iconic model (so far, unless you count Daria and/or Milla).

Snejana, Juju, Viktoriya, Alla and ofcourse Daria and Milla! All big Ukrainian girls! Looking forward to see the result.

I really wish there was Vogue Scandinavia or Denmark... Danish fashion magazines are so amazing... I am sure Vogue would be amazing too...

The premiere issue should be Daria. She's the biggest name out of all the Ukrainian models.

I haven't seen this thread & I wrote in the thread ''The business of magazines''
But here is why I wrote about the thing KissMiss wrote:

is Vogue turning into ELLE?;-)

Vogue is the new Elle - 40+ editions. And that's okay, since it stopped being something very special some time ago.
Vogue is a myth; yes couple of editions are really amazing (UK, VP) but I don't see why is it on the higher level than Elle or H.Bazaar? Maybe it features more luxurious items than other magazines, but the quality of the magazine is the same, IMO.

I can't get about which Daria everybody is talking about, i don't remeber any big ukrainian model named Daria, shame on me. But i would love to see Snejana on the debut cover. She is very well known in Ukraine and worlwide and it will give issue a lot of attention, and of course Snej has a huge fan base. As well they can give to Alla, but i hope they will not. And of course there are so many great Ukrainian models Juju, Alina Baikova, Ella Kandyba, Viktoria Sasonkina, Naty Chabanenko, Appoline R., and so on because the list is never ending. Of course i am more afraid they will give cover to Evelina Mambetova, who is very popular in Ukraine now, that would be bad bad bad. But my fingers crossed for VU to stand out among all Vogue editions, for example like Vogue Turkey.

^Daria Werbowy of course. She has Ukrainian ethnicity (if I remember correctly, her Ukrainian parents moved to Poland where Daria was born, she then lived in Ukraine for a couple years, then they moved to Canada where they reside now).

If VU will want to put a Ukrainian model on the cover, I would be surprised if they went with Daria. Simply because Daria is more known as being Canadian and more associated with Canada. I don't know if people in Ukraine (as nenv just demonstrated) even consider Daria 'their' model. I'd say Milla Jovovich is a more likely choice than Daria if they decide to go in that direction. But seriously, Snejana has to be their top choice. And I don't say that because I stan for Snej, but objectively speaking she's the top Ukrainian (from there and lives there) model currently working. None of the current girls have even come close.

I do agree with nenv that there may be a chance Evelina scores the cover, simply because she seems to be running in those social circles in Ukraine. Plus, she was rumored to be dating Akhmetov's son too. I have nothing against Evelina. Wouldn't mind her getting a cover EVENTUALLY, but I'd be disappointed to see her on the debut cover.

However, my biggest fear is that they'll put someone like Natalia Vodianova on the cover. That would be the worst. VU better be one of those editions that supports their girls (ala Brazil or Russia) and since there are plenty of great Ukrainian models, I hope they get some exposure and at least one of them gets the debut cover.

BTW, will it be in Russian or Ukrainian?

^ Oh thank you for explaining about Daria W. I always considered her as Canadian, but that would be awesome if she gets a cover.
And i am almost positive that it will be on Russian language because all ukrainian fashion magazines are on russian.

daria would put vogue ukraine on the map.

no offense, but snejana is pretty much a model of yesterday. and milli is definitely not a vogue favorite. i dont think putting them on the first issue of vogue ukraine would generate much buzz in the high fashion world.

daria is definitely my first choice. next would be some up coming models such as juju. next would be kate moss/giselle/lara(the supermodels).

my point is that the first cover should go to a model who is still relevant to the industry in order to generate buzz.

When I saw the title of this thread, my first reaction was, "I hope Snejana gets lots of covers."

But seriously, Snejana has to be their top choice. And I don't say that because I stan for Snej, but objectively speaking she's the top Ukrainian (from there and lives there) model currently working. None of the current girls have even come close.

i don't think you're being that objective tbh, Snejana was quite successful in the past but now she's just not relevant in the fashion industry anymore
i hope Alla gets the first cover -_- imo she deserves it more than anyone, she's such a hardworking and talented model..

^Snejana has been a regular at Vogue Paris under Alt. Has had a number of eds in Vogue Japan the past year or so. And has just landed a cover of Vogue Portugal. Seems pretty good for someone who's not relevant anymore, no?

BTW, Ukrainian fashion insiders were asked their opinion on the upcoming edition, including they they think should be on the debut cover.

"I suspect Eveline Mambetova will grace the debut cover." Lilia Pustovit, designer

"I think it's obvious for all that on the debut cover should be our "local" model, who's a top model internationally - for example Senjana Onopka. Fortunately, the list of Ukrainian top-models who became stars of the international runway is long, to pick one will depend on the editorial vision." Zoya Zvinatskovska, fashion critic

"Regarding the debut cover, I have no doubts that in our country we can find a few candidates - successful models, bright and beautiful individuals." Yulia Voronova, owner of Ermanno Scervino store

"Regarding the cover, I don't welcome when Ukrainian magazines use foreign imagines. In my opinion, we have a lot of talented individuals who would be capable of producing a good cover. Moreover, Ukraine has a good number of beautiful models." Alla Kostromichova, model

There is some pic of quessing who will be on debut cover=) And there is still no information who will be the editor in chief. So it is hard to say something and how everything will develop.
