Looking at all the 2008 covers together makes me realise I didn't buy any of them. They're not awful covers by any means, but nothing really appealed in a 'must-buy-this' way, and some months were too thin and contentless to acquire.
The 'Summer Camp' cover was probably the 'best' in terms of doing something only W does - combining hot models in an unexpected cover shot, yet I don't find it at all interesting. And to me, that's the problem with W in 2008. They're not really doing anything that wrong with those covers, yet they're somehow lacklustre. I'm going to go for Kate Moss, because I like her face in that cover.
Christy's Jan 2009 cover excites me more than any of the above. Well, I hope that's a good omen for the twelve months ahead.
The more I look at the covers, the more I dislike that same-same-same column of text they use on the left-hand side. It's like a big boring block of words, and if you obscure it with a finger and imagine it's not there, the images become much more interesting (notice that 'Summer Camp' doesn't have the word-pillar). There must be some way of playing with that, to revamp their cover look.
