Thanks for posting the content everyone, especially Zorka
.
I can't get enough of Amber, Christy and Shalom's covers. I wanted to complain about Sara Moonves styling these covers and Michael's editorial, but no, I rate the imagery and fashion selection here. I'm not really a fan of the very minimal Thompson editorials like this that he used to do in the 90s; I always found they usually didn't manage to stretch the parameters and concept that works so brilliantly for the covers successfully. These women though, especially Shalom, elevate the cover story. I really like the odd, more playful shots, although the best one is probably Shalom in black. The denim shot of Christy is hideous though and should have been cut.
I'm not so interested in the other content although I&V's feature is mostly good, principally Sora's photos. Unfortunately Ib Kamara's styling still looks like a fraught tribute to early 2000s music videos and it does drag down a lot of photos in the Pavarotti section.
Still overall it's a must buy issue and I enjoyed all the little interview blurbs. What's most interesting is to see where Moonves takes things from here. She's definitely slowly started to give W a refresh which was much needed after the pretty awful Tonchi era (right from the beginning of his tenure) but has been very fixated on celebrities as far as covers and promotion of the publication go. It would do her well to continue more in this vein if possible, focussing on models and if possible locking in Thompson to contribute a bit more consistently. Let's see.
