W Magazine Volume #5 2023 : Sofia Coppola by Steven Meisel

How far in advance do issues close? The September issue was already on newsstands by Labor Day weekend, I don’t know if people who started their positions in July can take responsibility for the content in that issue. Even this cover was almost certainly planned and potentially shot before they assumed their roles.

they were included in the contributors page of the last issue as the new Creative Director's at Large

they could’ve been consulting on these issues before deciding to take a more formal role.

^ possible! September 2022 was also a multi-model cover everyone liked, though. So the concept isn’t new for Sara’s tenure at W. Sara also has a friendship with Sofia, and Sofia has a history with the magazine. W even hosted the party for Sofia’s new book a few weeks ago.

I’m not denying they could have a positive impact on the magazine, but I don’t think it’s fair to assume credit be given to newly minted Creative Directors at Large over an EIC for issues that no doubt were already well in process before they even assumed their roles.

I wish the distribution of this magazine was better where I live (a local grocery store carries it, but not the national book chain lol), because I really want to see how it all looks in print. Like I said in the topic for the previous issue. It hits all the marks, but it's till not quite there for me... hmm... Whatever, I'll take it.

Nothing new. Same old style. Meisel in Black and White is kinda boring. To be honest.

I think is an strategy of distribution, last year was the same. Actually, last year the orginals issue arrived circa october 15th at the newstands and their Holiday issue was available by the beginning of december.

I suppose the fact that they don’t produce an issue between june and august is because of the ads sells. Just look how poor are the june/july and august issues of Vogue.

it’s what Meisel does with celebs. Me personally don’t expect much.

Received my copy a few days ago, in addition to the Sofia and Tilda features, there's a shoot by Alasdair McLellan with Mona and a multi-model shoot by Rafael Pavarotti, plus the "originals" feature. I think it was about 180 pages?

Ugh, a must-have. Even besides Meisel's brilliant cover story, this is the Tim we all know and love and have been waiting for. What a story! Reminds me of better fashion days.
