What Are Your Thoughts On Plastic Surgery?

^ This is true. In fact, in my experience of knowing people, it's the more attractive individuals that get surgery... :whacko:

What saddens me is that the more and more that women (and men) get surgery, the less and less we will be accepting of gracefully, naturally aging humans. There will soon be an unideal image with which we will associate, in accordance to the perfect body/face... and that's upsetting. The standards just go up and up... How will it get better? It will just get worse.

A lot of people who get surgery aren't ugly though....

Well, very often it is not how you "objectively" look but how you feel about yourself. I had work done on my mouth and gums. I knew I wasn't "ugly" (although some kids would tell me I was) and I wasn't self-conscious about smiling but I definetly knew I would be more attractive if I had surgery. Some people are born with a perfect mouth & teeth but I wasn't. It wasn't my fault, it wasn't because I sinned or because I was given a great gift in some other area. It just happened genetically. I could feel envious of other people who were "beautiful" for the rest of my life or I could suffer for couple of days and never look back, which is what I did. My parents were totally supportive, nobody blamed me on being vain and ungrateful, my defect was purely cosmetic, it didn't treathenen my health or anything, but now I look so much better.

I think it is fine to touch things up, or if something is very out of proportion, to even it out. I don't like the obvious plastic surgery where that is all you see and think about when you look at a person....

I'm thinking of having a 'subtile'(sp?) boob-job(I hate the word) when I become 18. I now have a cup AA and it seriously bothers me. On top I'm almost a boy, and from my **** down I'm definatly femine looking.

My mother has the same problem, but never thought she should do anything about it because she was affraid of how her family would react and she didn't have the money at the time. Now when she wears dresses to party's she looks in the mirror so sad because she dislikes her body and doesn't feel femine. Which is so sad, because too me she is one of the most beautiful women in the world and she has a heart of gold.

So I don't want to find myself being sad over my body when I'm 30/40 years old and wishing that i'd did something about it. I just want to be able too wear a nice dress or top with confidence. And i don't want a huge change or anything, I'd be more than happy with a small B or a large A.

That's that.

i honestly think plastic surgery is not neccessary even if you are not beautiful, accpet the way god created you. he created you to look like this for a specific reason, be confident and learn what god has given you, instead of trying to change your OUTER looks hoping that gold and fame will fall upon you because it wont. even if its the self esteem, yes maybe plastic sugery can boostit up, but is it real? is it natuiral? was this a confidence you innately had or did it only emerged out because of plastic? think about how our world would turn into leets say another 50 years form now. everyone, well most people the majority of the population would probably look alike, the typical face strucutre, well-wanted nose, same eye, high cheekbones, pouty lips , perky breasts. yes it may sound nice, but imagine strutting down the street seeing people that look exaclty somewhat like you is that beauty? ok it may not affect us, but imagine what it will be like in the future.

I think plastic surgery should be allowed for accidents only. face it, nothing in the world is fair and if everythnig is fair and same. wouldnt it be a diasaster? and scary..AND boring.

You don't want a star trek world where people are generally happy and there's no poverty? I always think "wouldn't the world be boring?" but it really really sucks to be hungry. While I think plastic surgery is NOT a substitute for being happy with oneself, it does help certain people. It's just a shame that a LOT of the time people who have nothing wrong with their appearance feel unattractive.

The thing is that a lot of the time, plastic surgery won't fix that insecurity. But if somebody has say, a nose that's completely bent out of shape or a collapsed cheek bone or something, it's going to impact on their esteem even if they're pretty grounded. So there are some cases where I think a little bit of tweaking can really complete a person.

I just don't think those are the majority of cases.

Well, I don't believe in "God". I don't believe in purpose. I think it's stupid assiguning special meaning to being "ugly". I was watching a program on BBC about twin girls joint by the head. One of them was completely "normal", another only had a brain and a heart, no limbs, just half a torso, no other internal organs. She was a parasite. In couple of months they cut the other head off and "the head" died, the main girl survived. But obviously, the girl who only had a head and a heart, she was alive and conscious and had a seperate personality and desires. So, what was the purpose of that little girl, to live one life for couple of months with just a head? to be just cut off with a saw? Seriously, if that was her one life, was were the qualities she was supposed to attain? Or maybe it wasn't neccessary at all to seperate them, since "god" created them that way. God, if he exits, wants me to be happy. He may not be bothered to control the whole genetic process, but if he gives me means to make myself better, so I can be happier, it's my duty to use them. This is my view on religion. :D

yanka, i get what ur getting at, but i think the 2 girls head attached togeteher is a bit off topic with the plastic surgery topic we're discussing about and it is disappointing to know such things can happen to people. and please by all means dont say stuipid with the assigning people to be ugly since i didnt mean that god created ugly ppl for a purpose, but think about it, if theres no ugly there wouldnt be beautiful

I don't believe in a, "god." Yawn. Plastic surgery is fabulous. Unless it's abused and you look like one of those stereotypical Upper East Side nightmares. If it improves and gives you the look you want, why not? Whatever floats your boat... I'm satisfied with the way I look, but in 40 years, I won't rule out a face lift or two, whatever is on the market at that point. ^_^

Yes you did, mademoiselle - "he created you to look like this for a specific reason, be confident and learn what god has given you". I told the story about the twin girls in order to illustrate my point that the logic or greater purpose only works in certain cases, and it fails completely with infant deaths, miscarriages, and generally very young people dying or spending their life paralized, incapable of making choices etc. You were the one who was talking about the purpose in relevance to plastic surgery so that is why I brought up my counter point. :flower: In any case, I don't think anyone should be ugly to make beautiful people feel beautiful.

I'm totally fine with plastic surgery, because some people aren't born with the features they ultimately desire and who am I to deny them what they want to do with their physical self.

Most people have plastic surgery to better their self confidence.

And if it does make them happier, then I'm all for it.

:)

got ya, yanka. =)

I don't know... really. A lot of people I know are not religious but most people believe in something - a purpose, fate, superior intelligence. It's just that in our age, the whole institute of religion, especially christianity is under scrutiny, their methods and teachings have been re-examined plus there is always all the new age movements that offer an alternative. I think there are very few people who TRULY think there is no point and all they are is a body, because even if it's true it's a HORRIBLE way to live :ninja: Anyway, sorry about the off-topic. Generally, I like to follow my own simple rule - if it's against the law or I Personally feel bad about doing something, than it's probably wrong.

I go through phases of wanting it, then being against it. I have small boobs, and when I was about 13, starting considering a boob job, right up until about a year ago (18) when I accepted my boobs (haha). I would have only gotten it done because I am pear shaped and am really out of proportion with my bottom half.

For the future, I would consider a nose job (even though people have told me people pay to have a nose like mine, to me, my nose is huge and not symmetrical), I'd also consider earlobe reshaping and fat removal from my face (I'm sure they can do that, right?)

I would be worried about getting addicted though, I've heard that can happen to some people, especially as I am body dysmorphic, it probably wouldn't be a good idea! I would move from one flaw to the next.

One of my best firends got a nose job. She used to be really concerned about it, because it was a little too big and kind of crooked. She used to wear glasses and didnt want to use contact lenses until she got her new nose. She finally had it done last summer, and believe me, the result is beautiful. Her nose is lovely now and doesnt look fake at all. She stopped wearing her glasses and uses contacts now, and believe me, she is absolutely beautiful. Its amazing to see her new confidence. So I'd say: if you want it, go for it. Just find the right surgeon, the one who wont try to make you look like a fake barbie doll. :flower:
Anyway, I am considering surgery as well. My nose is quite small but too wide, and it looks like its been broken a few time. In fact I just realized that Kate Hudson got a nose job, and it kind of hurt me because her old nose looked just like mine... So it makes me feel even worse about it, lol!

I'm generally okay with plastic surgery, so long as it's performed on adults who realize the risks and consequences.

I do not support anyone under 18 getting plastic surgery, and I think that most people shouldn't do it until they're at least into their 20s. Plastic Surgery is such a huge undertaking it makes me uncomfortable to think that some girl who just turned 18 might go and totally change the way she looks. People change, and what she might have wanted at 18 she might regret at 22.

The one thing about plastic surgery is that there are so many people who have unique beauty, but who get plastic surgery in order to fit in with the societal mold of what an attractive person should look like. It's kind of depressing, because the world sure would be boring if everyone just looked like little clones of each other.

im for plastic surgery. i dont judge people who have it except when they lie about it. of course there are some people who are extreme and totally obsessed and addicted to it... i think plastic surgery is a boost for self-esteem... even if i believe that 'god created us like what we look like', i think anyone should get plastic surgery if she/he wants. i dont think anyone should judge a person who got their face fixed.i, myself, am contemplating about a boob job and nose job. im very flat chested and it would be nice if i had larger boobs so my body would actually look like an hourglass.. i wish to have a higher nose bridge... but im not desperate about it... i guess i could live w/o getting plastic surgery.but i would definitely get plastic surgery when i age... but not too much...

I don`t think there`s anything wrong with a little nip and tuck,if you have something that really bothers you change it.I do think it`s disturbing when people bring a picture of a celebrity and say "I want to look like this",the doctors who agree to operate on these patients should have thei licence removed.
