What Are Your Thoughts On Plastic Surgery?

I know this is going to sound shallow but you have to be pretty naive to think inner beauty is all that matters. Look at the society we live in, honestly. Your appearance is being scrutinized everywhere you go whether it's for jobs (yes, outside of fashion, too), or to the store. A few days ago I asked the pizza guy how much a sausage slice was and he asked if it was for me or a friend. I didn't look so bad that day either if I do say so myself - so yeah. I guess looks are favoured anywhere and everywhere.

I don't think you need to go under the knife every time someone calls you fat or ugly, but if you will feel 10x happier after doing so - then go for it. I was watching youtube clips of 14-16 year olds getting breast augmentations and rhinoplasty and ... whatever it's called to get your jaw done. Oh Maury, I love you. But! I do think it was a mistake yeah, the girl who got lipo could've done push-ups for a few months and have solid abs - however when they asked her back on the show she was so happy and really glowing. She felt like waking up for a reason since people have always made fun of her, so yeah I kind of support it in that sense when you do it for yourself. Granted, she's like sixteen and growing but there is no age count for low self-esteem. I thought she could've eliminated her belly fat and what not by working out... but I would've supported it 100% if it was something like rhinoplasty.

whats the jaw thing? is it to make it more defined?

I have been at the doctors from 10-5 today for a physical, blood work and pre op and still have to get an ekg... so exhausted! Hope everything goes well. Has anyone here seen Dr. Guyuron? He is supposed to be one of the best in the country.

Yeah she had it be more refined, as well smaller. She used to have a crimson chin kind of thing goin' on but now it's regular.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me, darlin'. ^_^ BUT if it was, I don't think inner beauty has anything to do with it. Merely, it's accepting the outside for what it is. I never consider what someone is like on the inside really. :P

before i was undecided about cosmetic surgery and whether it is inherently shallow or not, but lately i have realized that it's pretty much impossible to condone one type of cosmetic or superficial change and reject others just because they are seen as "conventional" beauty for this society. for example, people immersed in tattoo culture or in cultures with a tradition of tattooing/scarification will go as far as undergoing a drastic physical change by covering a large percent of their body with markings. those marks are only as meaningful as the person or their respective culture deems them, so to some that is considered a conventional beauty. there are even places in the world that wearing gauges and piercings large enough to stretch ears or lips, or placing heavy, brass (potentially debilitating) rings around the neck is the conventional form of beauty. many westerners would gawk at these physical changes such as these, some even deem these forms of beautification as barbaric and backward but they are on the same plane as breast implants or rhinoplasty ( which has actually existed since around 2000 BCE along with other procedures.) our bodies are changing all our lives, so if one wants to make a deliberate change it usually won't make that big of a difference. if the change is shallow or not, is completely dependent on the individuals reasons and opinions of people who deviate from their idea of conventional beauty( which is probably always evolving anyway.) the only difference i see in non-western forms of body modification is that usually changes are made to be celebrated as a right of passage or sign of some standing & significance, while western changes are usually made in secrecy to some degree if it can be helped (so it still has the idea of taboo attached.)

It will be interesting to see how western cultures general idea of beauty continues to change though. for example, i read an article about cosmetic surgery , and the general consensus from the surgeon was that the "ideal" nose was once a upturned with a "ski-jump" profile, is now a strong straight profile. who knows, perhaps the natural progression would be a curved profile with a lower hanging tip. all have the capacity to be beautiful when done proportionally. i don't think body modification is ever truly necessary, nor does it have to be. as long as it is a personal choice and journey for a person then it is meaningful. After all, almost every place in this world has some form unique form of cosmetic surgery, most even older than the kind generally referred to, it can't be the cause of the downfall of civilisation:lol:.

I finally got my health issues figured out and rescheduled rhinoplasty for feb. 2nd. I'm very excited and cant wait to see the results. In the meantime the dr. did juvederm in my lips and nasolabial folds, I'd like little touch ups but overall I cant believe what a difference it made to my face. And I never thought my lips could be so big and not have that duck/over filled donatella versace look.

I want to get my nose done too... How exciting for you GG! :woot: How long does it take to recover?

For whatever reason your nose takes a very long time to recover but I should be able to leave the house within 10 days looking mostly normal. About half of the swelling goes down in a month, 80-90% the next month or two and then the rest should be gone in a year or sometimes more in people with thick skin like me.

If anyone does it I cannot stress enough to do tons of research and make sure you have the best doc you can possibly get. The one I'm going to does a lot of revisions and it's scary what some people end up looking like after bad surgery.

I've actually just made an appointment with one of the best rhino-doctors in the country... That is the only thing I want to have done though. I love wrinkles, they show that you have lived...sagging I'm not so fond of though

Thanks GG:blush:

I have searched every forum, and no one have been unhappy about the results from this doctor. I have seen the noses she has done, and she's fabulous. She also does revisions of all the f*cked up things other doctors have done to people's faces.

I was considering getting it done before the Easter holidays, but I don't want to miss school. I might postpone it 'till summer.

Oh how exciting! I didnt know you were getting it so soon. what are you getting done specifically? Your nose seems thin from the pics I've seen.

I wish I was as accepting of wrinkles. I cant believe I already need to fill in wrinkles at my age.

I love my nose from the front, but I really don't appreciate the side view to say the least. It's pretty big, sitting there on my tiny face. I actually love the shape of it, it's just a bit overwhelming...I feel like it's overshadowing my face, if that makes sense.

I want the same nose, just a bit smaller...def. not slimmer! Can't wait for the lady to hack away at it

I'm all about plastic surgery, but I don't know if I myself will ever get it. But I'm considering a career in it for sure. But getting out of school when I'm past thirty isn't too appealing.

I don't even like to use the term "plastic" surgery--just not that simple. Seems to me there are two types of modification--reconstructive and cosmetic. Both are important and both compliment each other. One of my English students in Japan was the chief of reconstructive surgery at a hospital in Yokohama. He performed reconstructive procedures on children with birth defects and patients disfigured in accidents. This experience was valuable to him whenever he did cosmetic procedures. He explained to me once how he can minimize or eliminate scar tissue and stretch marks.

I think you are brave if you go through with it! I dont think I need plastic surgery I like my nose, my mum is 44 not a wrinkle on her face my genes seem preety good age wise altho i only just turned 20. But I doubt id age gracefully! I cant bare big wrinkles like Gordon Ramsay eeeeek!

Anybody know how to get thighs that don't touch? Like, with the cosmetic surgery?

^You need to lose weight in order to get smaller thighs. If you get lipo, well... Look at Tara Reid. It aint pretty.

^^ Actually to 'the gap' (thighs that don't touch) you have to either have wide hips or be bowed legged (even if it's just slightly) :ninja: Either that or be really underweight.

It's how girls like Beyonce have that gap even though she's not all that thin. And Natasha Poly's massive gap is caused by the fact that shes really bow legged.

My nose bothers me so much, it's tiny front on but big from the side. I don't think I will ever change it though. I'm also really flat and I keep thinking about how I'll have a little boys chest when I'm in my 20's. But I think I would be to scared to play around with my body like that, so many things could go wrong. Plus I've seen more bad plastic surgery in my life than good.

Maybe in the future when it's safer.

i am all for it, though sure some people have taken it abit overboard at times...but if it makes them happy....

Personally I would only get procedures like chemical peels & dermal fillers. Never anything that involves a knife though. My boobs are almost too big, nose is fine. I wouldn't want to risk messing something that is good as it is up.

A friend had a nose job last year & she has so much more confidence because of it. I can totally understand people who are really self-conscious about a big nose or flat chest getting in changed. People really do rate other people on things like that, not everybody is Barbara Streisand.

I'm against Lipo though. Much better to spend the money on a personal trainer & eat right.
