What coat are you buying this winter?

looking to buy Max Mara wool coat. I have one and the feel, material, cut is just supreme. I also get alot of compliments :) And also looking to buy more Burberry Coats.

yes I have also thought of going vintage but it's hard to know where to go in London i find because it's so overwhelming. Oddly enough at my local value village in Canada they always had great coats. Thanks for the Zara rec's guys. I might go and check them out next weekend

I think those that Jun Takahashi did for Under Cover were brilliant and precisely my style....but alas,I can't afford anything designer at the moment.

and they are not warm by any stretch of imagination

Remember that Margiela coat that was Bergorf Goodman's buyer's pick of the season on the men.style.com feature? I think it's you.
Hmm, I'm not one for a toggle/duffle coat this season.

Despite the Margiela label, I find the design pretty ordinary, and it actually reminds me too much of JCrew and Ralph Lauren (both of which have had a version of that for so many years, and this year as well...

Compare JCrew's current one:

I wasn't that into it in the men.style.com article because it looked way too familiar even before the season began in earnest. So many labels have had toggle coats through the years. I'm sure Margiela's might have more interesting new details, but I can't see it just from the pic though. And at that price, I better love it! :flower:

Perhaps a cool trench? Nothing has really stood out for me this season. I may check out Costume National and see what they have. What are you looking into getting, faust, if you're getting anything this season?

I know it may be silly to say from the picture, but the Margiela coat looks like it has this perfect tailored fit, which I can't say about the JCrew, looks potato-sackish to me.

I don't think I'm getting anything coat-wise Bakla, as I am rather pressed financially, and I already got the F/W 04 Cloak wool jacket, which fabric-wise is really a short coat (it's in the what are you wearing today thread). I was thinking to get the short Ann Dem wool jacket with the large collar and the knit cuffs and waist I saw at A, but I passed it because of the flimsy zipper (I think I will go for the heavy knit cardigan version come my birthday).

I am keeping my trusted swedish navy coat reworked by Marc Lebihan for really cold days...

Costume National is always a healthy alternative. I hardly pay attention to them anymore, so I can't attest to their current selection.

Agreed. But I guess I meant style-wise, beyond just fit, I'm looking for something that conjures up a little more edge. I'm actually leaning towards a long, quilted nylon coat, but don't know if the Lad Musician one I want will fit a jacket underneath...

Me neither, hence the need to inspect from time to time. I'll report back if I see anything...

I can't see the LaRedoute coat, Soft :(

Probably right concerning the quality. I've placed an order with them and it's been an absolute nightmare from shipping to quality to customer service  I might have to align with Helena when it comes to LaRedoute and swear it off

softgrey that coat is really nice looking. I'm not sure about La Redoute's quality either I'm sure it'd be around the same as like newport news. I like looking at www.barriepace.com sometimes they have neat clothes, coats, etc..;)

Yes, I'm all for edgy ^_^ But you know that.

Cool, do report. I may be in Barneys Friday, so I'll keep an eye out on their selection.

I was thinking of getting this lovely German officer's coat I saw in an army/surplus catalogue but I hate double-breasted,even if it is an overcoat.

Faust,I heard about your Le Bihan before.....and I can only agree, there's no sense in buying up more and more when one has two gorgeous staples as such, especially if worn for only one season. And they're fairly new too,so...

Thanks.

Yea, I hate double breasted as well, but the LeBihan is a good exception because the buttons are fairly small and the two rows sit very close together.

Well, I have new coat, for H&M (Don't worry, my dad bought it, I'm not going to have any nightmares about the bad quality :P). It's black trench and everyone is going to have one or similar.

Then I also have beige soft leather trench from charity shop but I don't know am I going to use it. Still a good bargain, only 15 euros.

It's snowing here, already :( gosh.

Yeah,Le Bihan has amazing pieces....it's a wonder why for the kind of work he does he is so underrated.

But I've been thinking,I might be going to Boston to spend the holiday's with my family so I might check out some places then. So far,it doesn't get so cold I'd need something too heavy. I can just layer things and wear my blazers for now.

And don't feel bad about doing H&M,indie....it's a viable shop for people with no money. It's better than most mass shops, really.

I'll buy some more coats, but i'm definitely bringing out a fav '60s vintage number...this is the 4th year in a row I'll be wearing it.

what?! Hate double-breasted! How dare you! Blazers can be fun and novel in an ironic 'i'm going yachting' sort of way and personally, I quite like a double breasted overcoat on men, ah well.

As for me, thankfully I complained to my mother and she went to the shop where I buy most of my clothes at home and took a bunch of digital photos there of various coats which is quite convienent. the coat I'm thinking of getting is this one (just hope they have it in my size). It's by a vancouver-based canadian designer I believe. You can't see the details too well but you get the idea.

I like it Meg B) ...it looks stylish, warm and appears to be of good quality. It's also not a coat of which you'll be confronted by a million lookalikes a day.

I seem to remember that you're tall ( :ermm: ? ),so it would hang well. For myself I have to get something more fitted or at least with a bit of a waist, usually.

Yay for your mom!!!:flower: (though no mother could possibly see her daughter freeze:p )

haha no am not tall! Am 5'3 at the very most. I want a longer coat though. There is a shorter camel colored coat but the length is just too awkward.

This was my second choice. I don't wear red very much if at all but the color is quite pretty and I like the pockets better on this one (they are sort of odd on the black coat but odd in a way that i think works). Also am not entirely crazy about the collar on this coat. (and thats the owner of the store holding up all the coats for my mother  )

I vote for the black!!And you guys must be very valued customers  .

The red is a fun colour but I agree on the collar not being that great. No,I really like that black one!

Yes, my mother and I are single-handedly putting their children through college. It's nice to support small business and the benefits can be great (ie. they don't charge me PST on clothing even though I'm 6 years above the cut-off age for doing that)
