morgan38 - oh, that's ALWAYS good to hear! I have a total love for any school that can provide such an education for undergrads. I'm a polisci major, and I was sort of amused the other day when my advisor/professor/classics-history dean told me that he thought it was unjustifiable about how the PS program at my school (which used to be good but apparently it's not so much anymore) still allowed TAs/GTFs (Graduate Teaching Fellows) to be teaching upper-division classes. I'm rather disgruntled about that myself! I wish I could transfer in - but I'm a sophomore right now, and I don't have a GPA that'd allow me to get into Yale - I think they'd take a 4.0 over a 3-something, for sure...haha. So after this year, I'm either staying where I am, or if I'm lucky and somehow manage to get in, to go to Boston U or Gtown as a transfer. I hope. But I don't think I stand out enough. I'd kill to study Gov. at Gtown, though...

DressageChick - I'm a little biased, but I'd totally do Gtown's SFS, but that's because it works right towards what I want to do in life. I have a bunch of friends that go there, though, and they love it. DC's an amazing city, and if you're looking to go into politics, then that's really a prime place to go to - you can get some amazing chances with internships, etc, and the fantastic faculty (I would give the entire left side of my body to be taught by Madeleine Albright...whom one my friend might take a class from next year. lucky ****. lol.) Yale is wonderful, too, from what I hear. I'm a big city girl, but even I'm almost convinced I could live in New Haven and not go crazy like I'm going where I am now! LOL.

nova - I don't go to school in the Bay Area, but I do live there when I'm not at Uni. (I wish I could go back every weekend! haha.) How do you like Berkeley? I swear, half of my high school went there, lol.

Back to McGill for PhD.

I love both schools. The teachers are wonderful and both campuses are great. Obviously McGill has a bit more to do since it is in the downtown area and Oxford is a bit more relaxed. After exams you're more likely to go have drinks at the pub in Oxford and more likely to go to a club in Montreal.

I find what makes University the best is having good friends around. I was fortunate enough to make very good friends at both schools

I'm going into medicine as well. I know it's a long, hard trip, but don't drop out. It'll be worth it in the end.

I've been considering McGill for medical school (I'm in Yale undergrad right now). But I'm not so sure. It's nice to here that you would recommend it though, since I don't know anyone who has gone.

I'm considering going to McGill for undergrad since it will be so much cheaper than US private college. Plus Montreal seems to be a very nice city to spend your college years in. I'm working on getting my parents to let me visit in March.

ooh I would also give my left arm to be taught by madeleine albright! I love that woman! I would love to go to Georgetown school of foreign affairs. Part of the reason I didn't like my university here is because I'm more interested in american politics. I think it would be a great school.

McGill is a great University for Undergraduate, Pre med, Graduate and Doctorate studies. Afterall, McGill is the Harvard of Canada

If you contact McGill recruitment they can match you up with a mentor or a buddy that can email or call you and tell you about their experince. When you visit they can also show you around campus and downtown.

McGill is inexpensive for Quebec residents but a bit pricier for international students. Also take into concideration that the cost of living in Montreal is a bit more expensive than New Haven because its more metropolitan.

I'm utterly convinced that Berkeley is the perfect school for me--that's why it's the only college that I applied to in the US! It's got a diverse mix of people from all over the world and different social classes. The people are laid-back, but at the same time they're very ambitious and career-driven without being too "Type A" about it. Also, our professors are great; I'm currently taking a class with a former US Poet Laureate and another one of my friends is a research assistant for a Nobel Prize winner.

actually I think New Haven is one of the priciest places to own a home in the US. It's still cheaper as a US resident than going to private school in the states. I have a lot of friends who go to McGill and love it but from what I hear, the school is not well off.

Hmmm, I know New Haven is around Farifield County, where I grew up, which is the priciest place to live in the US (with the exclusion of some celebrity town in Wyoming). But, I don't think housing in New Haven is all that expensive.

All my friends that go there love it. I just want to go, so desperately. Politics (in all forms - IR, IPE, IP, etc) is my passion, lol.

LOL - I kind of find amusement from Facebook - I get to find where people I haven't talked to for ages have gone and friend them and see what they're up to.

Berkeley is great like that - very diverse, laid back, but motivated. That's always great. My advisor/professor up here went to Berkeley - he loved it, too. Half of my friends go there, I swear. LOL. I only wish I could get staff that are so notable.

Well awhile back on MSN they had a listing of some of the most expensive places to live in the US and I'm almost positive that New Haven was one of them because I was surprised at the time.
