On the train of thought of what we carry daily- What do we carry when we travel to our parents? visit our friends? on an adventure or a much needed vacation? What would you bring if you were visiting Paris? Tokyo? NY?

Or what is your essentials on the plane, train, or automobile? :D  :P  :D

Travel is always focused on where I am going and what I will be doing.

If it's work and I'm going to asia- dressing warmly is important -they don't have heat at the factories. So layering, with turtlenecks, scarves, gloves, hats, & sweaters

=( thick clunky shoes-to keep me far from the gross floor and sidewalks in china

but cities Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai I have to admit you gotta be city chic, dressed in your own taste and this winter I've seen beautiful skirts and long riding boots.

If I am flying for work-I pack my Mac Powerbook G4, some sort of mp3 or cd player, a book for the long haul to asia, some magazines, and a bottle of water- any long flight I'd rather have my bottle nearby instead of getting the stewardess or hopping over my seatmates to get to the bathroom

Also, in my bag:
LOTION i like body shops
Eye drops- too lazy to take my contacts out
Tylenol Cold just in case
Tissues! You need this especially in China bring a lot of the pocket tissue
Passport
Frequent Flyer Card
Makeup
Tri-Band Cell Phone to use my phone in any country by buying a prepaid card
Digital Camera
Ear phones
DVD's and CD's (for jet lag when I'm up at 3-4am)
Snacks (there are days I travel and don't have the time to eat a meal so I pack breakfast bars and m&m peanuts )
Corporate AMEX

Well, I'm a pack rat and I travel with my 17 month old son...so my bag is full of stuff.

Magazines (mine)
Books (his)
Stuffed Animal (his)
Pacifier and teething biscuits
Passports (mine & his)
Birth Certificate (his)
Ear Planes (I get terrible ear aches from the air pressure)
Tylenol PM (for overnight flights)
Water
Slim Fast bars (in case the inflight meal is nasty)
English to Italian/Spanish/Portuguese/French language book
Guidebook
cashmere blanket and eyeshades
Journal and Pen
Pre-paid Phone card
AmEx, VISA and Debit card
Neck pouch (to carry all important papers)
Copies of tickets, passports, credit cards
Makeup bag
Frequent Flyer cards (airline, hotel, car rental...cause you never know)
Itinerary (even for pleasure trips I need to have my days planned out)
Camera
Film
PalmPilot
Address labels (I type up friends and family's addresses on adhesive labels so I don't have to hand write addresses for post cards)

fun topic! :D

for travelling to london:

tiny suitcase for my nicest and chicest, dark coloured clothes. and a good raincoat and boots for walking. discreet handbag to wear across body (easy to protect when gypsy con artists are making their way through your very crowded train car on the tube  )

for going home (next week!:(

one suitcase for all my favourite clothes, clothes that I don't ever wear (to unload at home), all my study materials for pre-exam revising.

for a short weekend away:

depends on where I'm going. I'm going on away on a university-organised trip this weekend, so packing light and functional is essential. besides what I will be wearing, one extra pair of jeans, two tops, trainers, a couple of books and my toiletry bag and I'll be set!

my essentials for train/air/bus travel go into my trusty black jansport backpack:

spiral notebook for study notes
a couple of books for study
a magazine or two
small cd case
portable cd player
batteries
water
asthma inhaler
small pack of kleenex
sweets
leatherbound journal
pens
organiser/address book
travel tickets, passport, i.d., etc. in a safe place
angel beanie baby  I'm superstitious and will not fly without it.

angel beanie baby  I'm superstitious and will not fly without it.

Don't be  ...I drive with an Erin Beanie Baby on my dashboard for good luck (Erin is my first name)

Clothing really depends on where I'm going and what the weather will be like once I get there.

However, I usually wear jeans with some stretch and the heaviest shoes I'm taking with me. So, if it's winter and I plan on taking knee boots with me, then I wear them on the plane so that they don't take up too much room in my luggage.

On flight:
Small bottle of Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer
Kiehl's Baby Lipbalm (it takes up less room than the balm #1)
Prada Shielding Balm in Tint 2
Packet of tissue
Packet of moist baby wipes
Face blotting paper
Dove facial wipes
a book
2 magazines
a sweater (I'm always cold on planes)
exra woolly socks
black pashmina to use as blanket
CD player and headphones, few cds in a Miu Miu CD case
Driver's license
credit cards
at least 40 dollars (for cab fare)
gum
something to snack on (usually baby carrots to help ease the cigarette cravings)
pen and notebook
bottle of water
Cell phone

Packed in luggage:
Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution
little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.
running shoes
track pants and tank
rubber flip flops
Ergo travel candle in Currant Calyx
whichever favorite shoes of the moment
I usually stick to black separates that I can mix up.

Carry on...

Water
Magazine, book
Zone bars
CD player and CDs
Moisturizer
pashmina or wrap (to keep warm!)
Heaviest pair of shoes
comfortable trousers
layered tops
Lavender scented eye mask (so I can sleep when the lights are on)
neck pillow
cash
all important papers
extra earphones
chewing gum
toiletries
anything else I think my boyfriend will have forgotten for himeself

Luggage
clothes - casual and dressy
Jo Malone bedside candle
small silver clock with photo of my bf and I (from Links)
small speaker to hook up to my CD player in my hotel room
extra books
a bunch of handbag and shoe options ...

One more thing that I will always travel with for now on...copies of medical claim forms. When we went to London in March, my son got sick and the hotel had to call for a doctor. The doctor cost £100 (about $162 USD) and now I'm trying to get reimbursed by my insurance company. If I had a claim form with me, the doctor could have filled it out right there and I'd have my money back already.

:( Sorry to hear that, Esiders.

Have a safe trip, Paris! B)

Have a great holiday Caramel. Hope you have some room left in your bag for some shopping.

I'm off too Melbourne in a few days (sans hubby ) MY bag will be loaded with turtlenecks, scarves, pants, jackets, gloves, tights, boots, long skirts, a business suit, an evening dress. I'll also have a discman, CDs, my hair straightening irons, and a good book.

And there will be just enough space left over for a little shopping.

I pack the usual.Beauty products, clothes and shoes.I guess the weird things I bring are empty suitcase,(to fill with new stuff)My own linens,MANDATORY,My own pillows,a quilt my grandma made for me,(I can't sleep without it)Room perfume or incense,My teddy bear, and Protein bars.

This is the perfect topic for me as I am planning my packing for an upcoming trip right now. The difficulty is that I have such a varied itinerary. It's everything from farm in Ireland to black tie on QE2.

My usual approach is to make a chart, listing each day and what I will wear - like a seating chart. I figure out approximately what I'll be doing each day (travel, visiting relatives in Ireland, giving anniversary drinks party in London, theatre, walking the South Downs, etc.) and then I assign clothes for that day. I look it over and see what I can combine or what I've forgotten. Then I use this to make my packing list. It just seems more complicated with this trip which is almost a month long. When I figure it all out, I'll try to post it here. In the meantime, please keep posting as I've already gotten ideas from the lists here. Thanks!!! :flower:

For the wedding/vacation trip to Grenoble/ Paris

Paisley sheer shirt-Banana Republic
Black Graphite Dress-BCBG
Blue Silk/Chiffonish Dress with Florals in a watercolor-Benetton

Purple Skirt-Diesel
Charles David Mules in Black
Denim Slides-9 W
Puma Mostra's White/Blk
Sequin Top-BCBG
Burberry Purple Scarf
Simple Reef Flip-Flops-Blk/pink

i pack as little as possible! i'm very big on packing pieces that i can mix and match b/c i'm constantly changing clothes while on holiday. my philosophy is that it's easier to buy things like shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc. once i get where i'm going than to try and bring them all along. and tolietries take up soo much space!

ski trips and cold climates are the worst for packing. :yuk: i just hate to carry a bunch of stuff through an airport. i would love to be able to federal ex my belongings ahead.

I bring everything and then some. 3 suitcases minimum for a 3 day trip. No way am I going to be unprepared!
