Going on holiday to hot climate at the end on august B) - being from northern climes I find hot weather wear difficult especially since I burn relatively easily (I need to cover up) & i tend to be out all day & not returning home until late evening.

A nice kaftan would be perfect , and i already have one but its black so not the best for the heat. Also I must avoid taking jeans as I wore jeans last year in Italy and nearly passed out with the heat. any advice? basically all my stuff is suitable for a more temperate climate so I am need of something thats fairly flexible/versatile. I would also like to get something thats going to last a few years as i will really only have the occasion to wear it on holiday. maybe I should just but some really cheap stuff ? mmm - what d'you think?

how about Helmut Lang's lightweight denim jeans?

black is most protective of you from ultraviolet rays.

though I doubt if you will like the stuff, Patagonia is functional in its own way, and relatively inexpensive.

thanks runner - yes i might look at Helmut lang jeans (although I don't think I can get them in the country I live in). I will definately take my black kaftan as its lovely. Thats the worry with getting a white/light kaftan - you still burn through the cloth which means i will have to wear sticky lotion under my clothes - yuk! was in australia a few years ago & got burned through a white top. maybe i should go on a sunbed a few times before i go just to get a littl eprotection in my skin. thanks for the help!

yes - I think I have seen some like that on a Uk website called Toast. They should be coming on sale soon. Going to Harvey Nicks sale in Edinburgh on saturday so see what the sale there has to offer. I must admit i am really hopeless with hot weather. I get really paranoid that I'll burn - my husband & I were in Sardinia last year sitting on a beach under a parasol with hats & lots of clothes on - when we went for a swim all the bronzed italians were pointing at us for being so white. Quite emabarassing but quite funny too. I'm sure we'll have the last laugh when we have nice fresh skin in later life!! Thanks for the help.

that's how I look at it when I get sad that I don't tan...

I won't look all wrinkly and gross when I'm older...

I usually get a protection in my skin at the rooftop since I fear sunbed.
it might be good to put up a black parasol with UVproof instead of wearing black clothes, at any rate troublesome things.

I actualy have some pieces (rash guard, tights, etc). they are really durable.
some people here wear Patagonia with CDG, which is interesting and brings about something like chemical change.
