Hi my mum plans to get married in mid 2006, im going to be her maid of honour and i get the previledge of choosing my dress!:D

I am only 13 yrs old and im looking for some inspiration.

Thanks in advance:blush:

For my sister's wedding we wore beautiful raw silk Watters & Watters dresses ... www.watters.com

I noticed when Googling them that they alter to fit pregnant brides or bridesmaids ... good to know

Home from work finally...

I am going to be a bridesmaid for the first time (at 24! I know most people have done this before by this age) in my close cousin's wedding next May/June sometime. She is getting married in a Cathedral style catholic church. Kind of a grand feeling atmosphere. I only saw her dress briefly in a picture so I don't remember it well, but I think it is ball gown silhouette, you know, full long skirt, strapless, and pretty ornate in places with the lace/pearls/beading(??) I don't remember what exactly but it is definitely formal and traditional but not stuffy.

She will have the final word of course since it's her wedding, but I was gathering ideas to help (and also to hopefully have a say in what we wear) and really wanted the opinions and feedback of you stylish tFSers.

The colors for her wedding are mainly light aqua and a deep red. I'm not positive on the precise shade of either. She prefers the dresses in the light teal/aqua blue color with accents in the deep red. And if the dress has no accent then she said maybe the shoes in red. I looked at different sites and overall I think strapless looks the most elegant. But there are a few other necklines I think would also look nice. I compiled a ton of pics and I am curious if anyone cares to share an opinion. Thank you for your help if you look. I appreciate it so much! :flower:

Here are a few thumbnails but there are more in the same album these are in:

image sources are alfredangel.com, davidsbridal.com, and dessy.com but I think most of the pics have the url screen capped in them so my cousin could find them easier so the source is in most of the pics.

^ I think I like the next to last one best ... it seems to be the palest blue, which I think is best with the deep red ...

Red shoes might be a good idea as those you might be able to wear again.

thanks fashionista-ta So you like strapless too? I just think it is the most simple and elegant for weddings. And I think long is good to balance out the skin revealed on top, plus you can always have it shortened to wear another time, or even dye it. I just chose the colors to get the idea, but yea, I like the lighter shade too. And I think I would like it to lean a little more towards green than these examples do. I mean, not what I would like, what my cousin said.^_^

^Just a thought but if its it a Catholic church you might have to cover your shoulders?

Oh. I don't know. Maybe a wide silk scarf then or something like that would work if we go with strapless. But really I think the pic she showed me of her dress is strapless. And I showed her the album of examples I found and she didn't say anything was wrong with that and more than half of my examples are strapless. Maybe it's ok for weddings? Or at this church? Good to keep in mind though thanks. I will ask her if she knows for sure but I think it's ok.:flower:

^ If the church has a wedding coordinator / point person, you can check with her/him :flower:

This is the only bridesmaid dress I've worn. They're from davids bridal :innocent: I didnt love it, especially how it fit around the bust but it's not bad. Somehow it made all the girls look about the same size even though we ranged from nicole richie sized to 6/8.

^Wow those are lovely bridesmaid dresses.

pinkstain if shes seen them and not said anything and if her dress is strapless I'm sure its fine. The only reason why I mentioned it is because when I've been to visit Catholic churches when on vacation etc., I've nearly always been made to cover my shoulders and my sister wasn't allowed in as she was wearing an above the knee skirt with bare legs. This was in Europe though, maybe they are stricter here than in the US?

Both the second and third to last full length strapless dresses are gorgeous!

Bump!

^^^ Guessgirl, even though you weren't in love with the dresses, they show up beautifull in photos... wow. Gorgeous. And who would've known they were from David's Bridal??

Bridesmaid dresses get expensive. In a perfect world I would ask my bridesmaids to wear Watters or Priscilla of Boston, but I just can't. :ninja:

I have an appointment at Alfred Angelo this Friday... This has been the front runner for a while:

^ We wore Watters & Watters for my sister's wedding ... they were a gorgeous deep emerald raw silk. Two pieces, actually, a jacket and a long skirt. Never wore it again ... still have it :innocent: Actually I'm glad you reminded me of this, I might have a pillow made of the fabric

I picked the color, and my main thing was that the color be flattering (so many pinks would not be so great on me), and that it not be ugly--and that it not scream bridesmaid. The shoes weren't so fantastic as I couldn't get the ones I wanted dyed such a deep color, but overall I was satisfied.

So my cousin messaged me finally with the chosen dress. I think the picture is horribly ugly but the dress itself might be pretty. It's hard to tell on those ugly websites on ugly models.
It's this:

Except my color is turquoise blue and each bridesmaid is wearing a varying shade of blue in order of height. I guess I think it will look pretty in a blue. And she could definitely have done a lot worse right!

I'm thinking a pretty blush colored heel would be nice but she didn't say what shoes we can get yet...

(eta: the fabric is chiffon)
