Which of Today's Models Have the Most Lasting Power?

^ It's true I was speaking simplistically, but I didn't really have the time to write out a long message. I don't agree though; to me, beauty isn't marred by frizzy hair or a bit of shine on the skin. If you're really beautiful, there isn't much you have to do by way of upkeep. I mean Tiiu and Ruslana, Jeisa, etc. probably would look just fine even if they caught the flu, ate big bowls of pasta, didn't wash their faces religiously, and so on. In my opinion, the beauty we look upon in these forums is not a product of circumstance-- it's natural good fortune! (damn them ) If it weren't, they wouldn't be so special, because us normal people would get to achieve their level of "physical perfection." On the other hand, someone can have a natural inclination to music, but if they have no dedication or desire, that goes to waste. So I respect those people who can devote themselves to it, and reach beyond what is typical to produce the extraordinary. I can't say that I respect a girl all that much who will exercise and practice perfect skin care to fit societal standards, as I would Bob Dylan! Not that I would disrespect her, but it just doesn't matter all that much to me. Then again pretty faces are just that to me-- pretty faces. I suppose the most important factor, the reason for the differences in our opinions, is how much stock you put in beauty and how much it affects you. Personally I don't care that much. I have fun in the Supporting Cast, but I am not "in love" with the model of the moment like others can be, lol. Sorry if that made no sense. I suppose if we don't come to terms, we can agree to disagree?

My opinions:

Daria-She will last long...she has a great body, its not skinny womanly. And she has that intresting beauty...she is not the most beautiful model out there but she sure makes you stop and examine her...just like Linda's face did to many.

Natasha P-She is always in high demand in fashion weeks...girls she started out with have faded, she's still getting campaigns..and still strutting her stuff. Hope to see her for a long time.

Doutzen-She is another hit & miss model. She has one look when you have one look people will get tired of you. She is the next Adriana Lima imo, pretty, but cannot model to save their life. All she will have is VS that will neglect her as they have done to Lima.

Gemma-She is just so...unappealing to the masses. And its called shelf life people! Just like the Brasilians, the Belgians, the Russians had their time....the baby doll girls time is ticking.

Okay, I'm going to be completely blunt here: Snejana is TERRIBLE, terrible on the runway. I fell in love with her when I saw The Vogue Italia cover but was sorely disappointed by the stooped, corpse-like creature that emerged on the catwalk a few weeks later. She looks like a vampire's half-eaten midnight snack.

I LOOOVE Snejana on the runway. Her gorgeous face is one thing, but when she's walking down that runway, you KNOW it's Snejana. It's HER walk and she's so fierce without being obvious or over the top with it. LOL, I can't even explain it, but I think it's the most perfect walk for her.

Anyway, the one person who I think will no doubt be staying around for a while and that's Natasha Poly. She's the only model right now, IMO, who is balancing both commercial (VS) and high fashion modeling (runway, editorials) like it's nobody's business. Her face is not really "trendy", so it won't be out tomorrow or the next day and it's very versatile.

I don't know why people are still saying Gemma doesn't have staying power. She's now branching out into acting as well and if getting more mainstream buzz then she did 2 years ago.

it's been about 6 years since this thread was first started, and nearly 4 years since it was last touched upon - this hthread definitely needed a bump, if only to look at the names that were mentioned: gemma: more or less gone from modelling. kate, karen elson, daria, sasha, snejana, karolina kurkova, gisele: still modelling! natasha poly and freja are mentioned in passing. funny no-one mentioned raquel, anja or isabeli! my, how time flies...

for the new vanguard, may i suggest the following models (and hopefully have someone point out where i went wrong or right some years in the future jac, sun feifei, jourdan dunn, emily didonato, karlie (sigh)... uh, that's it off the top of my head. discuss!

I agree about girls like Constance, Fei Fei, Joan, Karlie, Jourdan, Liu Wen, Chanel Iman, Jacquelyn Jablonski and maybe Frida. other girls are too new to tell like Arizona. I adore Ginta to bits, but she seems like another Eastern European girl who is going to fade away after a couple more seasons.
