why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

I feel like it's more of a teenage clothing.
I like the accessories though, especially glasses.

To each his own, maybe it´s just the baby-pink colour that turns me off, it might be a little easier for me to accept it in that blue colour, as seen in the show...

it's indeed not baby pink. it's peach. I would pass if it was baby pink. the color is indeed a little grayish.
The blue color is not that blue on the runway pictures (blue under hundreds of lights). I tried on all the colors they had once they hit the store, but the blue was very disappointing. it's a very dark dutch blue and it made me dull. At the same time, the peach color make me look healthy and happy, so I went with peach.
you'll know why if you see the coat IRL:) I'm a very logic person, and there is always reason behind my purchase. I took a risk, because I knew that some people hate the style and they will never get it. But at the same time, i like being controversial and it makes me excited :D

I really like marc jacobs. I think his main line is outstanding. The men's stuff is basic, but has fantastic construction, and those little details that make it worth it, especially the cashmere. Some of it is a little too weekend in the hamptons for me, but most of it I really enjoy. As for Marc by Marc Jacobs, I find it nice as well. I think it is a great alternative for people to pick up some good "wow" factor pieces without spending thousands of dollars. His shoes are great as well. :)

I think it's fabulous a sixteen year old has the fashion sense and the $ to wear Marc. More power to her at least she isn't clad in a half top and and skin tight hipster jeans!!!

I love that marc allows you to own the outfit.. it lets you make the piece distinct.. each one has its own feel. You can be classy or grunge, trendy or timeless...

I have heard alot about this jacket, is there anyway you can post a pic? I am so very intrigued!!!

how amusing

this thread so far has been quite amusing and as a new member its great to see the range of discussion on this board!

so, here's my opinion. I have to say I once loved the vintage infused creative stylings of MJ, but was loving him so much more a few years back when his line was very directly 40's sexy secretary inspired. And maybe its b/c I didn't have any cash to actually buy any of the stuff that it was so awe-inspiring

many of the things people have said here about the gawdy colors and design, poor quality, and general blah-ness of his latest stuff really resonate with me

I think he might be on the slide =(

i actually prefer the in-store clothing than what he presents on the runway..
a lot of it, at first glance, does look kind of blah..
but they are very wearable and clean/urban. theres usually a quirky something that will spice it up a little, in a subtle way. i know i know.. subtle is usually not a word that describes MJ.. I actually look to him for basics.

for some reason, the cashmere silk blends he uses are the softest i've ever worn.. but his quality does suck. coats, shirts, skirts, bags, shoes.. the quality of all of them s-u-c-k and for that reason makes his stuff overpriced. as well, some of the designs can be very unflattering on the body.

I have always found the quality to be quite good as well...

Okay, nothing to do with MJ pieces, but I can't stand the ads... horrible, in my opinion...

as requested caffiene:

coats: loose threads everywhere and rough material. a sleeve button cracked on one of them after only a few uses (maybe a freak accident?)
shirts/skirt: threads again, few pieces can't even survive the drycleaners and i'm not using a cruddy place..some cotton hand-wash pieces even lost color
shoes: the sole on 2 pairs of flats actually curled and arched by almost 45 degrees after wearing a few times in the rain. and my heels have never been so badly chaffed with another label shoe.
bags: leather doesn't last, shoulder bags look gross after few uses bc of leather grade.

either i've had immense bad luck with MJ or i'm monster woman who ruins clothes in a few days.. but other labels haven't done this to me. i don't think i should have to pay 1-2000 for a shirt, or 3000 for a jacket to have this happen, as much as i like the clothes.

there are some pieces i am and am not fond of by marc jacobs.
overall, i really like how he utilizes colour and layers; i just dont
like how some of his work seems a little repetitive.

I'm sorry to hear that Pinky. Did you get them at sale when lots of people tried them on? I couldn't believe what happend to your purchases!:(
My coat, tops, and skirts are all in good shape (I normally buy them when they hit the boutique - my size is always gone very early, so I either do not buy anything or buy one item that I like right away.) Both my bag and my mary janes survived a couple of showers and it still looks buttery. I wore my mary janes for a yr+a season frequently and they still look like new. They were soaked twice already, but I did add a layer of rubber sole to protect them. Maybe that helped?

fashion wise, FW04 is one of my favorite years:)

unfortunately no :(
maybe its just bad MJ luck.. some of them were favourites too! i buy from the boutique, dept stores, and NAP.. i figure if it was from the same place, maybe that place has high traffic or the employees are rough about storage, etc..

i need to start praying to the MJ gods out there..

Very funny Pinky!

I did find that lots of people just TRY on marc's clothes in department stores, so normally they are in bad shape months later...
