Will watches be phased out?

i think watches will remain.

i mean, there really isn't an adequate replacement for watches just yet. there are so many places you will be in your life where there are no clocks on the wall and taking out your cell phone could be considered rude or not an option. besides, with a watch you just glance at your wrist instead of havin g to dig in your purse.

i guess what im saying is that i think watches will be around for a long time

I need my watch at work constantly, no phones allowed near surgical equipment and lack of clocks makes it important to wear one!

I don't think watches will be phased put, they're beautiful and so many people collect watches new and old!

I think less people wear watches now. However, I don't think they will ever be phased out unless we get some kind of micro chip with the time implanted into our heads.

Watches can be very beautiful and useful. What is elegant about having to rely on your mobile phone? What about when the battery dies or you lose it? Maybe some people don't even like mobile phones and for them the watch will always be a staple.

Now, I hardly ever wear a watch because all the watches I have had are broken and not expensive enough to warrant a repair :( However, I have asked for one for my birthday...I think my mum has got me an Armani one, so we'll see. I can't wait to get it. I'm sick of having to ask people the time at work.

I feel naked w/o a watch on :p I think a watch is both practical and also a great accessory like a bracelet/bangle.

To me, a watch is like a good handbag! I also hate taking out my phone or glancing around to find a clock to tell the time.

i know many people who wear a watch and also many who don't. It's probably more important for people who are always on the go (college students, business people) and not so much for high school students or those who work in just one building the whole day.

Hrm...this thread is making me want to buy a new watch now:D

Like many i feel strange without a watch. I NEED one.
Can't wait to get my hands on a gorgeous Rolex i'm eyeing.

i have to wear a watch- i use the second-hand to take the pulses of patients, so personally, watches will never be phased out for me. plus, it's the only reason i look forward to buying a cartier tank someday! :D
But can't nurses not wear regular watches? I'm training and we had to buy a nurses watch, that you pin to your shirt..... it's the only time I would wear a watch, when I'm working/studying as a nurse......surely you wont be taking pulses with a cartier tank on your wrist would you? :flower:

i think watches will always have their place, many people buy them as investment pieces and take care of them like a valued piece of jewellery. It also serves as a great accessory to your evening wear; and for men, it just completes the look imo. How often do you see a suave, sleek looking gentleman (e.g. james bond) pull out his mobile to check the time?? NEVER!! he always pulls back his sleeve to check the time on his elegant watch!!
Well, while I've never got the appeal of James Bond, I don't think there's anything wrong with checking the time on your mobile at all. why not? besides, clocks are everywhere, so there often isn't even need to pull out your phone. perhaps your right on what James Bond or a similar person would do, but I don't think I've ever seen a watch look suave, sleek or elegant, so I can't really agree with that statement.:flower: But obviosuly I'm bias since I'm neither a watch fan or a James Bond fan

I love watches and collect them! Its a fashion thing for me i dont really look at the time alot... I'm either at home, or work or in my car so need to look because I have clocks there.. Nothing hotter then a guy with a sexy watch! I love it! i think watches will stay around but it will definatly become more of a fashion statement then to tell the time

I used to need a watch because I used to be really paranoid with time, being in a new school and all (commute). I still wear it.

But I think watches might not phase out because it is more convenient for telling time. When I ask people for time, it takes them a million years to find their cellphones in their pockets/handbags, and that annoyed me.

I think the watches purpose has phased out since 2000, but I think its style in fashion will be timeless. Because although I always wear a watch, if someone were to ask me for the time, I always give them the time my mobile phone says.

really? i always still go by my watch..i cant' be bothered getting my phone out of my bag..lol
isn't it funny how everyone sees the watch differrently now..i still see it as my main way of telling the time aswell as a beautiful accessory..well not all are beautiful :)

well, i'm studying as a medical student right now, so as far as i know, doctors can wear regular watches. i don't know what the regulations are for nurses- that's interesting to find out there is a special watch for them!

oh, i would love to just have a cartier tank one of these days. maybe by the time i get one, i won't have to be taking pulses, lol!

Uhh... I dont see watches being phased out anytime soon.

hmm really? i dont know how i could live without watch... there are watches every where... but still we always look on our watch.

combine the two a 'watch phone'. how james bond! the only bad thing is i highly doubt cartier could come up with a watch that also included mobile games and sexy screensavers :P

No.
I have a cell with me at all times, but I never use it to check the time. It's too much of a hassle to dig into my pocket or messenger bag than to look at my wrist.

It's disgusting to hear that some people actually believe that a cell phone (!!!) could replace a good mechanical watch.

I think dead batteries and loss are more ikely to happen with a watch than with a mobile phone. Plus with watches the batteries probably die down slowly, meaning your watch will move slower, eventually giving you the wrong time....I must say the whole elgance thing confuses me.....there is nothing inelegant about checking the time on your phone, on a wall clock or whatever, and watches are a functional (looking)thing, that some still see as necesary, some don't) but I certainly can't see anything elegant about watches.

A good watch certainly doesn't contain a battery. Visit the homepages of patek philippe (www.patek.com), vacheron constantin (http://www.vacheron-constantin.com) or lange & söhne (http://www.alange-soehne.com). It's sad that many watches out there look dull, are made out of plastic or other awful materials. High-end timepieces are fascinating mechanical marvels, that should be seen as jewelry. They can be very elegant!
