Will watches be phased out?

Don't think watches will really disappear. Why would one really want to take out his/her cell phone to find out the time? I DO know that, however, young kids no longer how to tell time using an analog clock. Very sad.

I agree with those who say watches are classy, are classic and are much more convenient than digging out your phone.

I don't think they are in danger of imminent extinction.

Occasionally I will forget to put on my watch before leaving the house and I find it really annoying to have to get my phone out to see what time it is.

It's disgusting to hear that some people actually believe that a cell phone (!!!) could replace a good mechanical watch.

That's not the point people have been making, I think.

And to be fair, a mobile or a quartz watch actually keeps a very accurate track of time. Good mechanical watches simply can't compete in this respect... ;)

That being said, I do like beautiful, mechanical watches as well. :p

I think it depends on the type of person you are too. I haven't worn a watch since I got my first mobile in high school, but my boyfriend, who is very time conscious still does.

I have a habbit of asking others what time it is even if I have a watch or mobile on me.. so I don't wear a watch for that reason, I only wear it as an accessory..

an accessory that I love

I have only ever gone out twice without a watch, and on both occassions i felt completely lost

I think it is possible watches will go away on the low end. Higher end watches will always be around, as they have become a defacto status symbol.

even if i don't need to use a watch to check the time, i would still wear it
they make great accessories :p kind of an excuse to wear silver or something shiny or your wrist.. i'm not so comfortable just having a jewellery bracelet on my wrist, the watch adds something

i never really used a watch before, except back when i had one of those timex watches when i was 10 that gave you like 8-ball answers and stuff like that, but i always forgot to put it on. this year, for my 16th birthday my parents bought me this really nice marc jacobs watch and i love it. i wear it every day!

I haven't worn my watch in a long time, and I have a pretty nice one.

where's my watch btw

I think the watches purpose has been phased out. I check my cell phone for the time even when I have a watch on lol. But the watch is a timeless accessory.

i stopped wearing mine years ago.... i hate replacing the batteries and all that.... its so much easier to use a mobile.

but watches are really beautiful... we wear other jewelery for no practical purpose, so i'm sure watches will survive.

I say that they shall live on as an accessory. Especially when you don't feel like having the femininity of a bracelet or the punkiness of a wristband.

I wear a watch everyday and I couldn't imagine not having one....

I think they will, even more so than they are today, be seen as accessories rather than something practical.

As for me, I've only recently taken interest in watches.. My favorite being the ladies [SIZE=-1]Hermès cape cod double tour.

Ironically, I think that of all the acoutrements I can think of, a proper watch is (and will always be) the most timeless.

i think watches will always have their place, many people buy them as investment pieces and take care of them like a valued piece of jewellery. It also serves as a great accessory to your evening wear; and for men, it just completes the look imo. How often do you see a suave, sleek looking gentleman (e.g. james bond) pull out his mobile to check the time?? NEVER!! he always pulls back his sleeve to check the time on his elegant watch!!

So true ... and the main advantage of a wrist watch to me is you can check it subtly--not true of a cell phone, wall clock, pendant watch, etc. Even when I wear a pendant watch, I wear a wrist watch too. I too feel naked without it. Only on the weekend when I truly am not watching the time am I comfortable leaving home without one :innocent:

 i do exactly the same.
i wear a vintage French watch that was once my grandma's, i just can't go out without putting it on. it carries emotional value. ^_^

I doubt watches will be phased out anytime soon. I still get people asking me what time it is while in public; you'd be surprised at how many stores don't have any clocks.

I wear a watch everyday and would feel bare without it. Since I don't use a cell phone, it's nice to have some source of the time.

Oh please... this is like when people thought that radio would die out because tv was invented.
Just because there is something new, people don't just automatically stop using all that was before.
