Wimbledon

Well, I'm glad Murray has gone. Considering how erratically he has played, he was luck to get this far. Now we can get away from the hysteria and focus on some good quality tennis.
- I'm glad to see Nadal doing well, it's great that he is able to progress well here and prove himself on grass.
- Mario Ancic is my other favourite player left in the mens draw, he's been doing really well since he made the breakthrough at Davis Cup and he will definitely be Federer's toughest test. I would love him to win!
- There are also a lot of quality players left in the Women's draw as well...Myskina, Dementieva, Sharapova, Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne...now it will get really exciting!

^Against a below par Roddick.....

I admit Murray played a wonderfully mixed up match against Roddick with his variety of shots and quick thinking on the run.

But today......... it just seemed like he had lost the will to win......

Wimbledon has been quite dull this year. Nadal and Federer are the only men's players who are always good to watch... Hewitt is probably one of the most boring players in Wimbledon history, so let's hope he goes out.

I agree :yuk:

Boring boring groundstrokes......

Roddick has terribly low confidence, no matter what he says. It's as much a mental game as it is physical, that's what seperates champions from players. We know he can be a champion, he just needs to find that feeling again.

Murray hasn't found consistent form yet...he may have played well against Roddick, but today he made mistakes that you can't afford to make if you want to be at the top of the game.

^Agreed...... he also needs to control his temper a bit - it can work in your favour (McEnroe) but can also work against you.

^yup, i think it was sometime last year he got very rude with some reporters, they where pushing him a bit hard but he needs to learn that they do have some power. one thing that really annoyed be was that loads of reporters said Murray was Englands last hope...umm hes scottish (im not scottish btw, im a southener)

I don't think an English journalist would ever make that mistake, no? (The Saltire wristbands are a bit of a give-away...)

I've been watching Men's Doubles, boring.

I loved that though, a little subtle dig! I'm sure he knows ALL about his opponents...
My picks for today:
Mario to beat Roger (I know it's a dream! But entirely possible, Roger is human after all)
Rafa to beat Jarkko (In 5 sets I think)
Radek Stepanek to beat Jonas Bjorkman (I just have a feeling that all those five setters and doubles matches will probably play their part today for Jonas)
Lleyton and Marcos is the one I really can't tell about. Lleyton has the experience and I think would probably edge it if it got tight.
Let's see if I'm right!

Federer vs. Ancic, not exactly a wonderful match, but proof that Federer is still the best...

i swear they did but then again i could have imagined it due to the fact i am slowly going mad....

As a commentator, McEnroe is quality.

As a match, Baghdatis vs Hewitt is also quality.

Baghdatis vs Nadal is a tough one because they are both so likeable! Nadal is a champion waiting to happen but Baghdatis has been playing very consistently this year. They both arent that experienced on grass either.

The Federer/Bjorkman match has just started and much as everyone wants to root for the underdog, the way Federer is moving is just balletic.

Sharapova is noisy isn't she? No wonder she always wins, her shrieking must put the other player off.

Shame Murray lost, he did look mardy and disinterested though.

She is awful isn't she. I think they really ought to put a gimp leather mask on her before they let her on court.

Yes. If I were a Scot, I wouldn't want to claim Murray. You can never be so arrogant to forget that this is entertainment and give up. Cheek. These people fight FOR EVERY POINT even when I am too hot just sitting there watching them. He'll amount to nothing.

Well Roddick thought he was from Ireland:rooleyes:

Bless! To think that people a few years ago were predicting a Federer/Roddick rivalry. Yeah right.

I wonder if it ever gets boring for Roger to go out there and really have nobody of your calibre.

The God of tennis was smiling, the day Federer was born

I love Baghdatis' mum, she always cringes when it's break point...

Well the God of good looks wasn't so there! I wonder what Sampras would have made of Federer... I mean of course back in the day. These days he loses to the likes of Robby Ginepri.

I have little to contribute to this thread other than saying that I think Nadal is a total babe. But I am suprised at how well he is doing on grass- for a while we all thought his magic was limited to clay. Guess not!
