Winter coats and jackets

Classicalbang that coat is gorgeous!! But you already know that... ;)

I have so far bought a grey Isabel Marant coat, although I will be looking for a warmer option for those really cold nights.

What you thinking for a warmer option???... I'd love a fur coat... but living in the UK i'm not sure I'd risk it with so many people anti fur... although getting the disaproving looks and upsetting a few of the leather clad and meat eating hypocrits apeals to my b!tchy side...

I've always found alpaca or tweed coats to be the warmest... although not seen much in those fabrics for this season yet. How about you?

Where are you from you need such a warm coat... Im in scotland and you def need it... the prob is half the time it rains too... and rain does not go that well with nice winter fabrics...

Seeing as it will be my second Chicago winter this year, I decided to indulge and buy a couple new jackets from Whyred.

The first is a navy wool coat with a detachable hood.

The second is a simple beige double-breasted trench.

I like them both... but are they not a bit inadequate for the cold Chicago winters???

Dont look exactly warm to me?

Oh don't worry, WSG! For those really cold days I have one of those giant North Face Nuptse Goose Downs like this:

I got myself a new barbour to see me through winter,a pea coat which will make a change from my newmarket. Its not even winter but its had a lot of use already :-(

Ah... Yes... Warm but I must say not exactly a fashion statement...

I know... the coat is absolutely hideous and only reserved for those REALLY frigid days.

Seriously YES... She is not lying... Scotland has been awful this August... exactly the same as last year... So inconsistant too... you cant plan anything!

It's absolutely pissing down today! If I'd taken a picture of the city centre of Edinburgh this morning and told you it was a January and you would have believed me...

Biggest issue for me is the shops still dont have the AW stuff in yet!

I def need some AW coats!

I bought this coat from Hobbs a few years ago and love it... It's so different as the fabric is just so different... quite thick and luxurious... and great with accessories... I would never think of selling mine... but even though its a few seasons old is still hot in design... I just dont wear individual coats too often so people dont associate me with wearing the same coat day in day out. I don't get people who do that... one coat per season and just wear it all the time! Mind you I have about 25 coats !LOL

Mines was £300 so get yourself a bargain if it fits you...

Prob no more than most places.... about 6 or so months... but then I just love coats... so end up just buying more than I need.... buy because I like... not because I need when it comes to coats!

I didn't think she was lying  But a winter coat in August!! I grew up in a nasty climate, and I don't think I ever wore a coat before September.

Now I live in a pretty temperate climate, but we do still have a winter, albeit only 3 months or so at the most. I have two coats, and for many years I had one, a Burberry trench with removeable wool lining. The other is an uncut black corduroy (looks like velvet) with ruffled/ruched details. Personally I don't like wearing a coat much, and I see it as pretty utilitarian, like an umbrella. There's central heat everywhere, so I take it off as soon as I arrive anywhere. We drive rather than walk here for the most part, so ...

TIf I was going to lie it'd be about my age, lying about the weather is kinda blah. Like the weather itself :D It has rained so much that I got caught in the rain and got so wet I had to rebuy an entire new outfit down to underwear lol. Where was my barbour then?! And slightly off track, but the same week my flat flooded due to the heavy rain, grr!

I have 32 coats in one closet alone, and I'm still on the hunt for another.

I didn't really mean that I thought she was actually lying fashionista-ta.. sory if my tone ment you thought that... it was just my way with words... which is not always too hot! LOL English was never my thing!

It must be a Scottish trait... a few of my friends are well into coats as well... i'd say its not uncomon for a Scottish fashion concious girl to have 15+ coats ... tends to be coats for me though...

32 though Dumbfairy... thats amazing!!! So what you got... styles/materials etc??? You got any you have had for a few years??? I adore talking about coats etc... just love the combinations of material, cut and luxuary you can get with a coat... I guess I do a lot of walking and driving but would never not go out without a coat in the winter... I hate being cold!

When it gets really cold as it does in Stockholm and Paris, there is nothing that keeps you warmer and chicer than fur! Minus for when it rains though..

I so agree... apart from the UK anti fur mob who are just as likely to atack you! Fur is still so seen as wrong by many here... although it is def changing... It's funny though was chatting to a friend who told me it's nothing to do with the animal rights... she just does not like the look... something I really didn't understand as I think the look is the ultimate in female chic! Anyone else out there agree with my mate... ????

I have worn the same coat every winter for the last 4 years, and I'm going to wear it again this year :flower:You see, some people don't like to spend money on something that you don't need. I don't need more than one coat (and who does - really?), and I think it would be a waste of time and money to buy coats just because I didn't want to wear the same coat twice in one week. I think that is absurd and spoiled, really. I have a dark brown wool trench coat that fits perfectly, you can't even see that I have worn from November through March for 4 years - now THAT is a good buy. And I don't really care if people see me in the same coat every day, why would I?

I do wear shorter wool coats in the fall when it's not absolutely freezing. Haven't found the perfect one yet, though, but I just got this one from Gina Tricot that I hopefully will wear every day until I switch to my wool trench coat. I might wear my leather jackets on days that aren't completely freezing though.

I do hope that it has the right length - I want it to keep me warm, but still not to be too heavy and unmanageable as coats tend to be.
