Winter coats and jackets

Looking for this coats style and era
Hey i'm new and really have a silly question. I have this giant thorn in my back that screams I want this coat but I dont want to buy a shoddy costume version, I want to either find the country and era it could be based off of and or find the coat it's self in some sort of fashion.
Now these images are of an anime called trigun and the person in the center of the images has the Red coat that I want. But I do not know the name of the coat nor do I know much else except I am dying for it. Even if I have to make it myself.

My suggestion is to find a custom dressmaker and commission to have this coat made for you. I am fairly certain that this style never actually existed outside of anime.
It is pretty damn sharp though, and I think there should be people wearing a few of these outside of OtakuCon or the like.
What I'd do if I were you is to get some manga that feature this character, or even print out the very images you posted to this thread, and take them with you on you consultation with a dressmaker. I do know for a fact that it is perfectly feasible to replicate this coat. It would not be cheap, I promise you that, but it could be done, and it would be insanely awesome, and you would get compliments whenever and wherever you wore it.
This is not me, nor my work, just some awesome dude I saw at DragonCon.
If I were doing it, however, I'd make the coat of worsted wool with a satin lining and brass buttons. His coat is pretty awesome, but yes, it is cosplay, not a real, honest-to-goodness winter coat. I still maintain that it would be feasible to make a regular coat after this fashion.

Hmmm, so I should take it to a seamstress. I was also told that terms to look for are Duster Coat, Douver Coat, and Civil War era coat. Or Overcoat.
I looked at duster coats like cowboy east and west, Australia and such, they look sorta like it but would still be a work in progress. Same goes for Douver coats. The Civil War era I could not find just yet. I will keep looking ...
Should I look around for some sort of paterens or will the pictures do for the dressmaker?

If you do go with a dressmaker, he or she will tell you what his or her preference is. I can work from photos and either draft a pattern or modify a commercial pattern, and I expect most other custom dressmakers can do the same.
That website quotes that coat at $300 which is VERY reasonable considering the quantity of work that goes into making something like that. I hate to work in PVC and would advise a customer to look to something like boiled wool or heavyweight cotton outing flannel.
That website might well be a very good bet for you. The detail work is excellent, and as I said, that is a very fair price for the quality and quantity of work involved!

I do thank you for the help but I would never ever make a coat out of PVC, ugh that would be so sweaty and icky. No I am looking to have one that i can wear as a replacement for my other coats, So it needs to be real and sorta heavy and breate like a real coat that can take damage and dirt really well.
I will go with the dressmaker idea and see what boiled wool feels like. Either that or I can get some treated leather at stock and have the dressmaker use that

I saw a bunch on ebay as costumes to and they all have the icky rubber shine to them and other stuff.. it is just not my thing.

I'd say my "all-rounder" is a blk wool/cashmere blend 3/4 length coat. Perfect with everything from eveningwear to denim! Mine is lined with thinsulate to keep warm without bulk. I live in a warmer climate that does still have a winter ... I have been wearing a Burberry trench with removable (zips) wool lining for about 20 years. If you want a cloth coat, MaxMara has been known for its coats for much longer than I've been alive. And Stella McCartney had at least one really cute one ...
