Worst Makeup Mistakes!

but yeah, i think some of the mistakes mentioned here can be sorta acceptable, in certain cases.

like, too much blush can be cute if its a very neutral eye and lip look.

the purple lipstick is gorgeous, dabbed out a bit in the center is excellent cause it looks like you've been eating berries.

drawn in brows are a very daring look, and it can be done quite tastefully, again, if the look is suitable. think about those big dark brows in chanel a few seasons ago...

the only un acceptable one is the horrible crack head eyebrows. you can have the most gorgeous face but with brows like that, girl, i'll stare at them like if they were a freak mole between your eyes.

I was trying to come up with a way to redeem my junior high fling with frosty blue lipgloss (why, Hard Candy?), but I'm thinking that frosty blue lipgloss is just one of those mistakes that goes straight to that list of Unacceptables. I'm getting heartburn just thinking about it. :yuk:

Black mascara + eyeliner against pale skin
Lining you eye below the lash line
Thick foundation
Overtanning

And I personally don't like brightly colored eyeshadow.. it's distracting from any natural beauty of the eyes, cause I just keep staring at the eyeshadow

my sis has good intentions but the makeup she almost wore out to dinner was a disaster..i was like "stop in the name of love! im not letting you leave the house with that face!" lol

it was blue eyeshadow, bronzed cheeks, frosty pink lips, it was all kinds of wrong..very that 70's show haha

some girl who came into my restaurant i work at..she had black/dark grey brow powder on her brows..eek..as if the girl wasnt manly enuff, she had to do caveman meets groucho brows too! it was funny because i was talking to one female & one male coworker and i swear we all just looked at each other and thought the same thing..and finally we were like damn she looks soo.. manly! lmbo

Penciled in blue eyebrows
Orange tans... especially when it's only on the face X_X
A thick, more than 2mm solid line of black eyeliner
Lipgloss that goes out beyond the lips
Cakey foundation... especially when it's piled up over a mountain of acne >___<

thick black eyeliner that is uneven..like two rectangles on the lid when they blink -_=

pasty & super heavy foundation all over..see Emmy Rossum & Michelle Trachtenberg..they are almost getting into the Evan Rachel Wood, Dita, Jabbawockeez territory lol

im one of the palest people i know but opaque whiteish foundation is not a good look! at least find something more sheer/thin it out with moisturizer or add more blush/very subtle bronzer.

One of my friends makes the worst make up mistakes ever! She uses thick foundation, too much blush, too much lipgloss that goes beyond her lips and too much concealer! She looks like a clown and the thing is that I can't do anything to help her!I've tried so many times to tell her politely that she would look better in a more natural look but she can't understand it!

I have to echo the brows sentiment and trust me, working retail, we see the worst mistakes-none as bad as a mom AND her two daughters who had shaved off their natural brows and penciled in brows a good inch or so higher.

Honey, if I did that, my brows would be in my hairline. Also BROWS ARE WHERE THEY ARE FOR A REASON. I cannot make that point any clearer!

That being said, I did not do anything to my brows until last September, when I ended up getting them waxed on a whim, and it's definitely something that everyone should consider because you can have the best makeup in the world but if your brows are wack...then it kinda ruins it a bit.

I actually love my bright eyeshadow and yes, the reason I do it is for people to stare at them, but I also love to play up my eyes since they are my favourite part of my face.

I used to keep a ton of old makeup too, I went through my makeup drawer last year and I pitched a ton of old Bonne Bell lipglosses from freshman/soph. years of high school, a good 15 of those lip balms, etc. Then later in the year, I pitched pretty much everything that could be bought at a drugstore. I kept a few of the Avon items since they're fairly decent...but now I never use them.

Blue lipgloss is a huge one, however MAC just launched Comet Blue Dazzleglass and I am kind of intrigued. It's not a full-on blue-think more sheer.

* bright or dark lip colors that dont compliment lip shape/proportions of lips to rest of the face...

I can relate to so many of the mistakes cited in this thread!!
For some reason, I find it much easier to see makeup mistakes on myself through photographs rather than in the mirror. I cannot count how many times I've left my house thinking my new makeup attempt looked AMAZING, only to see pictures of myself later on to realize how horrible it actually looked. : ( Because of this, I've developed a photo-proof makeup routine of relatively neutral shades for everyday use. This makes it much easier (and less stressful) to get ready each morning.

Common mistakes I've made include: Dark eyeshadow and black eyeliner (I have such pale skin that any dark shades look terrible on me), too much blush or too rosy a shade of blush, and too dark a lip color.

My make up mistakes tend to be unwise choices of shadow and blusher together. Too much blusher in an effort to look 'contoured' and always, caked foundation and powder on spots. I just can't seem to get the right foundation!

This is such a funny thread- I don't feel so terrible now about many of the mistakes I've made.

In high school I used to wear extremely thick black eyeliner- ala Amy Winehouse- and I thought it was so cute- I have no idea what I was thinking. And I used to try to line my inner lower lid with eyeliner as well. Of course this doesnt work too well, since this area of your eye gets a little wet and any color will wash off. And I tried to do this every single day when I was in high school. (I wish I could back to my younger self and point out all the make up mistakes)

^ Even up until recently, I used to wear such heavy eyeliner. I look at the photos now and simply cringe.

^Same here. I still do it,but only for nights out when it matches my outfit ^_^

I have a phobia of people in frosted pink lipstick

Lauren Conrad, The Hills. too light foundation

Yes. I have the light foundation problem, and sometimes too heavy eye definition.
I try to improve, but I never quite get it right!

^ i go off of how pictures look. they tell the truth even when people dont

i always see horrible makeup applications on youtube but i just sit there baffled and never think to come here, some of them are :

* powdering the entire face after bronzer and blush, dulling the color and shimmer and in the end they just look cakey with no color on the cheeks. and their intention is not to tone it down, they just dont know what they are doing! seriously learn how to put it on before you try to be a youtube makeup guru!

* 'contouring' their face with bronzer under the blush but they just end up bronzing the entire lower cheek which makes their face look bottom heavy

* not blending foundation into their hairline

* bad blending when trying to put on concealer with a brush...even in low definition videos i can see the two lil half moon patches of heavy concealer. sometimes fingers will help warm and blend more than a brush(depending on the consistency of the product)

I cringe saying this, but I totally destroyed my eyebrows when I was younger and made them pencil thin, and I have black thick eyebrows. I looked hideous! I also rarely ever saw pictures of myself back then so I don't think I realized how bad it looked.

I can totally relate to most of these mistakes - especially the thin brow look, it just made me look mean in highschool!

One thing i've noticed about a lot of younger people wearing makeup these days is that they only wear eyeshadow, sometimes a really unflattering neon color, I've seen several people do this and the rest of their face isn't prepped in terms of any foundation of concealer (unless they have naturally nice skin). It bugs me because it totally ruins the look, they should at least try with a little blush of gloss.
So yeah, not so into the "nothing-but-eyeshadow" look.
