Worth Haute Couture F/W 10.11 Paris

^ Me too, I think we would have different point of views once we've seen them on a model

^i agree too, on a model i think i'd get a different feel.
but on their own, they are stunning! i really like the
concept in general

It's really beautiful. But.... It does not belong in our lifetime. This was couture for the European Royalty in the 1800-late 1900. But not now.

^True, but it's still beautiful so it's a treat to see :flower:

is this worth as in charles frederick worth? did they revive the ''brand''? did it never go away? im confused right now? either way it's very beautiful although, like other poeple said before, it feels from another era...

The clothes obviously are heavily inspired by historical references. And I agree that the designer did nothing to add context to make them more easily understood. But I don't think they are beyond the hope of modernizing, I think it could be easily done by the right people.

With that said, they're absolutely gorgeous, I love them. I would love to see more from the designer.

They look very very very dated ... and what was done with the collars on the skirts .. is he trying to deconstruct? If that was his intention big fail!
Yes, this pays an homage to Worth but its neither the best from its archives and its completely irrelevant nowadays.
Honestly ... Im sorry if I seem harsh but the importance of the House of Worth in the History of Fashion is something to be reckoned with ... and in here its seems like someone re-hashed something from the books and then took pieces from other outfits and saw them all together ... overall not good.

The brand is still alive and well.

Worth never ceased to exist. Obviously the couture concern stopped by the 1930s but the perfumes continued to sell, with "Je Reviens" being the most popular. Over the last years Worth has produced several lingerie collections but I don't know whether they were actually taken into production. This is the second mini collection done by Giovanni Bedin who has been brought in to revive the fashion side of the business. To say this has no relevance in today fashion is absolute heresy. All the elements that make couture are imbued into every piece and they will certainly influence designers everywhere. Alexander McQueen, God rest his soul, was known to have special access to the V&A couture collection and I am sure he stumbled over many a Worth dress.

Sorry, this qualifies as a historical costume study, not a couture collection that fits with anyones lifestyle in 2010. Regardless of the references that McQueen tapped into, these clothes do not communicate in any sense in what context they shall be worn. What a disappointment.

My thoughts exactly. As an art exhibition this is completely stunning, no one can deny that fact, but that's just it. I'm struggling to find the point in this whole situation. Unless the designer comes with an explanation, this is absolutely pointless.

Why can't they just leave some brands alone instead of trying to revive all the big old names... I really see no point in this collection besides maybe a homage... they should try to invest in the new, not the old

beautiful. but looks too much like costumes to be relevant to the modern consumer.

True, but let's be fair....give or take several pieces, this looks very dated. It looks more like additions to the 19th century herritage instead of modern versions of the spirit of the house. I definetly think the house has potential to be succesfully revived though...but I think it takes more than some very literal references to the history of the man that invented couture.

And I don't think those are McQueen references...if anything, McQueen referenced Worth. As does anyone else when they tap into the Belle Epoque era of fashion
