an earlier discussion on red hair made me think of my delimma...

I naturally have blonde hair, more on the lighter side than darker. For the fall/winter, I want to do a temporary dye...just to go with a light brown. Will it ruin my hair? I pretty much have fair skin w/ freckles here and there, so will the brown look totally out of my place?

I am in search for change...and what better place to start than your hair? B)

what shade of brown? do be careful because even with temp
dyes , it can stick to your hair. leaving you with semi color darkening .
i dont think your going to go dark brown, but also consider with brown hair , when your natural blonde grows in it looks like bald patches. a friend of mine dyed her ight blonde hair to dark brown and 3 mointhes later her hair looked grayish
so she had to dye in back to blonde.

we do all need a change once in while :woot: i went from my natural
dark brown [ think pen cruz] to a gisele like blonde, i went back to dark and now my hair is paying for for it :( i wont bleach it again for a long time - way too much maintenance

I;m actually thinking of going from blonde to brown at the moment, but im scared that i wont like it, and i'll want to go back to blonde aka THE DEVIL

seriously though.....getting caught into the blonde trap affects millions. there should be some kinda councelling for it

blonde to brown looks great. look at mandy moore! she looks awesome and im sure you will too. its always good to change.

I was reading in Allure, and there was an article on how dying your hair Brown is less damaging than dying the blonde. They had magnified hair strands, and sure enough, the hair dyed brown was much healtheir. B)

Thanks! :flower:

I have no idea what issue it was in. But if I remember correctly, it was in the fall. Because I got my hair dyed back brown in the fall, and for some reason, I just remember it.

I have dark brown hair, and I have reached a nice blonde a few months ago, but, its too much trouble to keep it up, so, I dyed it back to brown a few weeks ago, my hair just cant stand it any more, bleach thins out your hair a loooot!...
My best friend is a blonde, and she once brought some light brown dye, non permanent, and a highlights kit... she made me do her "low lights" which maybe you have heard of it, its like the opposite of highlights, you get a dark tone of dye instead of bleach, and pick some thin strands of the superior area of your head, and dye them.. they will go away with washes, and the change is not that drastic, if you like, you can do all over, as much as you want, depending on how dark you want your hair...and, when your natural hair grows, you can aways retouch them, and they will look even more natural than a whole head dyed of brown... I personally like that idea, but most of my friends picks really dark tones of dyes, and they end up looking fake, but if you choose a ligh ashy brown, or a light golden brown, it will look muuuuch more natural, cause your hair will " suck " up all the dye, and it will turn a bit darker than expected... you may get a reaaally dark brown almost black if you go dark or medium...

Most of the avan garde hair salons offers this services, but of course, after your first time done by a pro, you will see that is super easy, and you can do it yourself.. hope this helps. :flower:

thank you, Alejandro!

so...you're suggesting a light or golden brown? Tha's what I was thinking of going with. And just low-lights...I'm just not sure if that'll look goofy, or unnatural - because I'm clearly a blonde.

OK, put simply: your hair contains pigments. More or less depending on your natural colour.

Hair dyes work by opening up the hair cuticles and colouring the insides, sort of. You can't really dye your hair a lighter hue.

In order to lighten the colour you need to strip away pigments, bleach them away. This is more stressful.

Every chemical process that messes up the cutical layer will damage your hair (obviously) but bleaching is the worst because it actually strips away from the inner layer.

Or maybe you're just going bald?

Exactly  that is why I suggest the low lights, its much safer...but now my hair is on a forbearance period  , and Elle, I highly suggest you to go for a light brown, golden or ashy, it depends on your taste, but remember, keep it light and simple, thin strips of hair, not chunks, that will look unnatural and fake :yuk: ...of course that is the look that Xtina is always wanting to achieve  .. again, go to a pro, they know much more than I can tell u, and they can check ur hair and what exact dye to use...good luck sweetie

I hate my hair. I always have and I always will.

I tend to get bored of my hairdo every few weeks so I change it up. Usually by going to get it straightened or cut. (I try to avoid chemically killing my hair).

So far in my life I've had every single hair colour and cut imaginable.
Right now I have a European cut going, hair is medium length with short layers, the layers are short in the back and get longer as they come to the front. Anyway the colour of my hair is brown with reddish copper highlights.

The only thing I have yet to do is go blond. I don't know if it will suit me but my hair stylist says we should try to add a lot of blonde into my hair. Basically dye it blackish brown and streak it blonde. I find that look is a bit on the "trashy" side.

Any suggestions or comments?

I suggest caramel blond, or as my hairdresser likes to call it, gold.

caramel blond is def the nicer blond. warm yet still blondish

I'm new to this so I'm not sure if the pictures will post.

I'm going to TRY to post a couple of pictures of what I've done to my hair in the past.

I have a picture in my profile of what my hair looked like in June. Its just a few shades lighter now.
