Yohji Yamamoto Menswear S/S 2022

Can’t say I’m ever convinced to wear Yohji as much as I’ve always admired his strict, disciplined and consistent individuality even after all these years. His signature princely pauper is looking particularly sublime here. That the models’ hair and skin is smeared to match the prints comes off so nonchalantly cool rather than clownishly silly. That’s the sign of a Great just doing his thing so well. And that these looks are so specifically 1983 (I can see Fun Boy Three in all these models and hear Banarama’s “Cruel Summer” as the soundtrack) and still refreshingly sharp now in 2021 is a testament to Yohji’s relevance. (The last look is so supreme in that I’m not sure if the paint on the rumpled newspaper print is a print or actual paint…)

There are always heroes in the chaos and one of them is Yohji. Banzai, Yohji Yamamoto sama!

After seeing what Dries is doing to his own brand, you only want to respect someone like Yohji or even Armani, who has a respect for his brand and his clientele.
Nothing about it screams insecure and judging from what's going on elsewhere, it's great.

^He's become completely indispensible in these fashion times so barren of passion and talent. Each show a demonstration of how commited he still is to his brand.

The coat with fangs for buttons is to kill for as is the first look, which is very Adam and The Ants after a nuclear catastrophe.
