Zamb Barrett - the fire still burns

You were right, zam, you definitely did make some cute tops ^_^ I like the fluffy collars  some short sleeves in the mix would be nice :flower:

more on the color discussion...
this is a spring line, and spring lines tend to be more cute-sy... which i'm also not a big fan of
in addition, consider this: pieces which are cut in a good way will look more chic and more modest if in a less flashy color. you have to consider your target audience and what their preferences are.

Excellent construction and very intriguing detailing on the garments. I too will echo everyone else and say darker, less 'cutesy' colors would suit the garments much more. If pink is necessary, maybe a very pale, dusty pink? That'd be nice.

I wish you the best! Good luck!

well.
thanks to everyone for thier comments, i really appreciate them, and look forward to continuing this dialogue with you all.
but as i said before, i am not really a designer who uses a lot of colours.
my work has always been about details, fit and construction techniques. this type of work is usually best ( at least for me) in solid shades (nuetrals)
i just felt a need to try something different this season.
also when i went home to jamaica in May (for the first time in seven years) i went to visit some of the schools i attended when i was a child,
a period in my life when i was very happy. i kind of wanted to recreate that,
thus the theme of the collection "BRIGHTER DAYS"
IT would really be unfair to name the collection as such, and make it dark.
the colours i used are largely from the colours we used in the uniforms we wore in school as a child.
the only change was to use Pink instead of Red.
reason being, that red is a very poweful colour that i really have to figure out how i want to use.
many of you here are not very familiar with my past work, those who do will know that this colour thing is something really new for me.
matter of fact,
i will post some pics of past cllections in the " THE FIRE STILL BURNS" thread that you will have a better understanding of what my style is like

also, i am more than willing to offer some of the items in black and will state this in my lookbook.

thanks
God Bless

Im loving it, Zamb. I especially adore the pants and the tops. I agree with Tricotine about the use of color. Im loving flourescents though, so Im kind of torn...

Good for you that you took some risks with construction and deconstruction instead of sending out the usual 5th Ave frocks that are variations of Vera Wang. I shouldn't comment more except to chime in with the others about the colours being a bit difficult to wear as my style preference is quite radically different from your target market's. Best of luck to you and keep up the passion for art and life. :)

pictures of the FW 04/05 collection are posted in the "the fire still burns" thread

feel free th check t out.

I have to disagree about the colour aspects-I actually think the way you executed the scheme of colour didn't make the usage look cute to me at all. It's actually a great contrast because it's such a fresh approach to the deconstruction...which has for a long time been quite dark and harsh. Which is great too but you took that and utilised differently. But it almost reminds of something quite abstract....or watercolours.

and I must tell you,I adore that waist-coat that looks like a cut-out...very interesting.

i want to keep the " the fire still burns " thread separate , as it may be continuously in use, i may post more pictures of previous collections in it .
also i may have a very important announcement to make soon and i will use it for that purpose. and whatever development i have to anounce in the future
tommorow i will be shooting the look book and i will post the pictures for the look book here.

thanks Scott for your comments
Zazie, always a pleasure to hear your views

On the issue of color, its always debatable. Your sales person will say we need more color, buyers ask for grey, you want everything in black. We kill ourselves trying to make everyone happy including ourselves. And usually if you have financial backers they want everything made for their signicant others that most often are not the intended customers.

I really want to see them on the models and merchandised the way you want them. I also want to see the construction details as some people mentioned the deconstruction which I cant see.

Hope the shoot went great today!

or were the pics posted somewhere else?? i haven't seem them either....

^ can't wait :woot:

I love the construction of your pieces, and my favourite is by far the pink top (kinda lika a blazer) with the belt!! I love the colours, I think they are very spring with being over-the-top cutesy or whatever. If I could, I would definitely get a few tops from your collections.

The pink top is really making me drool right now hehe. I really want to see the pictures of the lookbook ^_^

And I'm sad you couldn't make it to Fashion week...
