You grew up around movie sets and have a super creative family. How have they influenced your style?
My parents always encouraged my sister and me to express ourselves and to be creative in every aspect of our lives. It sounds simple, but you have a choice every day when you put on your clothes to present yourself to the world in a myriad of ways. It's wonderful to have that opportunity! Also, my first love was musicals like 'Singing in the Rain' and 'The Sound of Music'. If you can get it right there's nothing more beautiful.
You tend to wear a lot of vintage. Which era do you love the most?
That's hard to say. Stylistically,
I have always liked the sixties - I love the dress shapes and the diversity of fashion that emerged from that era.
Is there someone or something that inspires your look?
I am inspired by a lot of different people but I think as I grow older I want to dress to express myself and show who I am rather than try to be like someone else.
I also always get jealous of children's fashion. I often walk by shops with dresses and coats made for little girls and wish they made them for adults!
Do you like to experiment with costume and colour when it comes to your personal style?
I think that experimentation is part of the fun! And, I think fashion should be fun. It's such a shame that it's often associated with snobbery and elitism. It's such a nice way to express yourself and gain confidence.
What are you currently working on?
Writing a lot of tunes...
What's on your iPod right now?
Thousands and thousands and thousands of songs. But right now I'm really into Skeeter Davis.
What do you love the most about performing in front of an audience? Whether it's for films, theatre or singing with your band She & Him?
It's different. I love performing for an audience with She & Him because having written the music and seeing it through from very humble beginnings to a live performance is so exciting and fulfilling. It feels so wonderful to connect to a crowd. Films are very different because you are always looking for your director's approval. It's satisfying but not in the same way.
What do you like to wear when you're performing on tour?
Short (but not too short) dresses that are easy to move in - and a few sparkles don't hurt either!
What are your fave things to do when you're in London?
Topshop, the Design Museum and Hampstead Heath!
What's on your Christmas wish list?
I just want to spend time with my loved ones - corny but true!
What will you be buying all your friends?
I think you mean what will I be
making my friends!
