So I never gave my review of the She & Him show I saw on July 28th!
Where to start, where to start. The opening act, Freakwater, was not only LATE by almost an hour and a half(aka unacceptable) but they were horrible. I wouldn't have minded them starting late if they'd been apologetic and genuine about it but their music was absolutely horrible. Sorry to those who dig them. They were not my style and one of the female lead singers was already drunk off her *** and talking about god knows what in between songs!
I didn't have too high of expectations because I've heard some of Zooey's live recordings and they're eh alright. I was just happy enough to be sharing oxygen in the same room as Zooey Deschanel, really! But She & Him far exceeded my expectations. Photography and video were not allowed, though during the return I snapped a quick shot. She was so, so beautiful. I cannot get over her beauty. She wore a cute party dress with bead work and sequins on the chest area, almost resembling an Indian sari, and around her head she had this sequined/jeweled headband thing pinned on. It could have easily looked like one of the hipster headbands but she did it right. Her and Becky Stark (of Lavendar Diamond, does her backup vocals) matched their outfits with the whimsical dresses and headbands. This is getting looong. Zooey was often smiling during her songs, dancing around a bit. I was disappointed that she didn't talk much inbetween songs but the performance truly made up for it. She did premiere a new song with lyrics, "And I know, and you know too, Let our love......, I'm still crying over you.."
I stuck around towards the end to try to meet her. I snatched a picture as she walked to her bus. I thanked her for an awesome show, wished her a good night and told her I loved her dress. She said she liked my dress too.

She was too sweet. I stuck around afterwards for another 30 minutes, like an idiot, hoping she would emerge. But I ended up heading out because it was a great night spent anyhow. If any of you have the pleasure of attending a She & Him concert, GO! The vocals are beautiful, the show is delightful, and it's a treat.
