The bodice of faille with fan pleated ruffle descending from shoulders around to low U back, slender crepe skirt with faille fan and box pleated deep hem, tucked stitched waistband, size 6, labeled: Adrian Original.
Excellent condition.

Adrian designed Garbo's on-screen wardrobe starting with her silent 1928 film A Woman of Affairs up until her last film 1941's Two-Faced Woman...

Very good condition.

Two-piece, comprising a short coat dress of silver and gold floral pattern lame, fitted at waist, with flared skirt, curvilinear seaming around shoulders, sewn with decorative strips and loops at shoulder and waist, prong-set pearl buttons, the slim skirt of chocolate brown silk crepe, size 8, labeled: Adrian Original.
Very good condition, except lame tarnished.

The jacket hip length, with broad shoulders, left side closure, and asymmetrical jagged cutout collar, sewn with self inset diagonal bands ending with rounded tabs and accented with large mother-of-pearl buttons, straight skirt, size 8, labeled: Adrian Original.
Very good condition, one small piece removed from hem interior.

Definitely my favorite costumer from the silver-screen of Hollywood days..I pick him over Banton and Irene anyday!

I used to have a book on his costumes, and I remember seeing this long feathered dress he made for Ginger Rogers, and what struck me most was that even though the picture was well over 50 years old., that same dress could easily fit in in modern times in any of the couture shows!

Adrian Custom Hat $1200. Hats by Adrian are rare. The Adrian exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art features this design. It is underpriced vs. intrinsic value.

1945 silk. In February 1945 Adrian was awarded the third annual American Fashion Critics Award. Thirty-two of the designer's garments were displayed at the award ceremony, including this ensemble which was part of his "Modern Museum" collection. With a palette inspired by Cubism, Adrian extended the abstractions of his earlier designs of the 1940s. Harper's Bazaar described this series as, "intricate as a puzzle and as modern as Picasso." Exploiting the dynamism of the Futurists and the geometric minimalism of the Constructivists, the interconnecting cell-like shapes reflect an abstract bimorphism. Adrian, however, eschewed the utopianism of the Futurist and Constructivist movements with a design philosophy that was firmly grounded in the realities of American life.

c. 1949 ADRIAN ORIGINAL Black Crepe 2-piece Late Day Dress! Coveted Designer! I've always wanted to offer an Adrian dress to you, but frankly couldn't find one that I loved enough! However, then came this dress! Be still my heart! I didn't press it as I preferred not to abuse it - and as it will wrinkle in the mail to you anyway, I figured I'd give the dress a break - so please just overlook the wrinkles. Otherwise, it's near mint! Black crepe 2-piece dress. Simple straight skirt trimmed in a triple tier tassel fringe. Oh, and then that amazing top!! Dripping in the same tassel fringe around neckline, yoke, under bust and sleeves! Front and back! Matching self tie belt at waist. Covered button back with require a friend to help dress you.. and plenty of time! Gorgeous goods! I'm assuming you know Adrian? "Hollywood's Famed Dress Designer". From 1928-1941 Gilbert Adrian dressed Greta Garbo, Judy Garland, Katherine Hepburn, Joan Crawford for MGM. in 1941, he opened his own boutique to offer his renowned dresses to all. Many Adrian dresses are currently in Museum collections across the country. Tassels seem to have been a favorite of Adrian.... and of those I've seen, this dress ranks better than most!! FYI, a print material Adrian dress sold for $5,000 at Doyle's Auction House, New York in May 2002.
