I've noticed some swing era (late 30's through the early 50's) inspired fashion on the runways for the a/w shows... not sure if this is intentional, but it certainly is noticable to me at least. lots of wide shoulders, bell-shaped and tulip skirts, high waists, etc. 1940's fashion is not my pet subject and it's not my style, but I do enjoy seeing designer's reinterpretations of the era...to me it's a bit different from the ladylike that's been all over the runways...but it's very chic and glamourous if done without being too kitschy.

key example is temperley's collection for a/w 2005. it really reminds me of hollywood's image of 1940's south america - latin nightclubs and singers... bright colours, beading, bell skirts, exotic headdresses... and the last little temperley dress makes me think of judy garland
this emma cook wrapover dress looks a bit 40's to me...especially with those black mary janes. the green velvet dress is boyd...very classic 1940's shape.
