77th Academy Awards Thread

hillary swank looked so incredibly statuesque...i saw her sitting in her seat and i thought "what the hell is she wearing...and then she stood up and i was blown away by the back of her dress (and her back) simply gorgeous...

cate blanchet always looks so incrediblly classic and glamourous to me. tonight was no exception.

when the camera panned to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis my only real thought was that with her itty bitty lips she does not need to be wearing glaring red lipstick. espcially with the black dress. the dress was lovely...but the makeup was awful. or maybe its just that her face always reminds me of a skeleton...

natalie portman's dress was my favourite. so goddess. though i think i might have liked it more in a chocolate brown then in that greayish colour

best - kirsten, james king, kate bosworth, natalie,
worst - christina aguilera - that is a seriously unflattering dress!

Best dressed: Charlize, the more I see it, the more I love it. Hillary Swank, Gwyneth
Worst dressed: where to begin? Melanie Griffith, Salma Hayek , Beyonce during her Phantom performance (the dress, the hair, the jewelry, it's all way way too much)

Halle looks so much better with short hair. Also the dress was nothing special. She can look much better than this.
Cate's dress was nice but not spectacular.
Kate Winslet: Loved the color. Not really liking the dress though.
Renee should stop wearing Carolina Herrera.
Natalie: don't really like her but she looked amazing in Lanvin.
Emmy Rossum: Liked the hair, makeup and jewelry. Dress was OK.

looks like this....

well I actually was thinking she was going more for a Sienna Miller walking the red carpet with Jude type look if ya know what I mean!
Her hair and I remember Sienna wearing a dress like that but in jade green for an eventB)
Oh a page back, someone asked why did Sean Combs "owe" Chris Rock money...he didn't mean Combs but meant Sean Penn.
He made a lame crack at Jude Law in his opening and said Jude wasn't a star- said "If you can't get Tom Cruise for your film and you can only get Jude Law, just wait!" He asked retorically why is Law in every film.
So, when Penn came out- and he is currently shooting a film with Jude in New Orleans- he said straight away that the reason Jude is in alot of films is due to his talent and he set Rock straight a bit. So, when Chris came back out, he was referring to the giant thugs he had said were his "accountants" in an earlier bit and said that Penn needed to pay up to the accountants...whew...that was exhausting to explain.
But, I highly respect Penn and did think Rock's cheap joke on Law was not funny and very mean in spirit.
Regarding Charlize's dress, it is indeed Dior- she is the face of Dior remember? so for events, she dolls up in Dior:heart:

Holy crap Gwen looks good, I love her makeup, it's so different then her usual red lipped old time glam look. Is that a Versace dress from the recent collection.
I agree, she looks so different. Gorgeous!

My top favourites from the evening:
- Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp both
(By the way, I loved both her red lipstick, and his unusual suit)
- Kirsten Dunst
(Simple, yet cute and a standout, I'd probably wear something like it)
- Charlize Theron
(I don't really like her, but I adored that dress)

i think that strapless mermaid gowns are really unflattering, especially when they are so tight on top like gwyneth's...flesh spilling out all over...penelope is the only one who looked decent in hers, and i didn't like it in general. gisele really bugs me and being with leo doesn't help. she sometimes looks like jessica simpson to me. ugh! and what is up with johnny's spotty facial hair? he looks like a 15 year old boy trying to grow his first beard. but i thought that scarlett looked really good, i love her hair like that. i also liked maggie gyllenhaal's dress but that waist thing sort of bothered me..i wish it weren't so many colors. cate looked amazing as well as kirsten.

i didn't actually watch them so i'm just going off having read all 17 pages of this thread, heh

charlize's dress is like the ugly things i see in the bridal shop window in roppongi.

Cate Blanchett!! A LEGEND. She has everything right and the dress is absolutely amazing

Penelope: Loving that she has left the black. She looks perfect in this. Two goals for canary yellow!

Hilary Swank: Miserable, self obsessed and insincere as she came across (trailer park blah blah, dreams blah blah) I can't believe so many people disliked this dress for being too concealing. I think it is horrible that our eyes have become so adjusted to acres of flesh. I think the dress was gorgeous and stylish (what an amazing back she has!) and reminded me of Angelina's famous black one except in purple. Where was Angie? Nothing is ever anything without the first lady of our planet (gush gush)

That Catalina girl looked like she was wearing a cheap prom dress

Charlize: Normally looks very piggy to me but the dark hair and the dress (which yes is meringue but ... good meringe) made her look very very cool

Maggie: Poor show -always expect better from her.

Why wont they learn not to wear black to the Oscars? Shame on Drew, Scarlett, Zhang, Kirsten and I am sure countless others.

Kate Winslet. Fine good colour on her but why does she always look dumpy whereas the others like Salma Hayek and Halle Berry and every Catherine ZJ (where was she -no show?) look curvy. Other than the Americanised Catherine, we Brits are just to lardy to compare with the Americans. But then again I could never stand Winslet.

Gwyneth: Why does she always look so wet blankety. She has the most divine modelly figure but they can never seem to fit her properly -especially on the bust. She was glowing though and I thought it was cool that her hair was so loose and that she kept pushing it back.

Natalie Portman: She just looked short. Wasn't the best dress especially as the colour just looked like dirt. Liked the headpiece though.

Gisele and Leonardo: I present to you the poster children of German-Italian heritage. I think we should start a breeding programme. Please post applications to: The Race for Aesthetic Superiority. Only purebloods may apply. She didn't look amazing but it has been a few years since she has been able to take my breath away. The Victoria Secret makeover has to go but still you can see that she is gorgeous and he is so sweet. It is kind of wierd though how reserved and wary he has become after all those crazy years. Such a contrast to his cute, geeky, bubly persona in early interviews.

The French: Julie Delpy and Vanessa Paradis. Boring colours but only the French can look this good in clothes. Vanessa's outfit wouldn't have worked if Johnny hadn't been dressed like he was. They looked very Cabaret. It was great.

I think all in all a bad clothes year. There were no clangers but there were a lot of dresses that were either blah or moderately bad. What on Earth were Halle, Vodianova, Elle Macpherson, Kirsten.. wearing? Also Micha Barton -there was a piece on her in last week's ES magazine (a London magazine) which concluded something like, "Micha is the designers dream -a girl with the face and the body for their clothes... but absolutely no taste of her own". Couldn't agree more (except for the face part) And years ago when I saw Lawn Dogs she seemed to be so precocious and talented and now she is just too... LA.

IMO the Oscars suck. I can't believe I spent years up all night watching this self-aggrandizing crap. Ignoring Scorcese and Dicaprio and awarding the ****hole that is Eastwood? Please. Bring on the MTV Movie awards. At least people look like they are having fun at those

I wish people would stop posting the smae pictures over and over again.

Post pictures of Clive Owen instead! He's so handsome ^_^

Oh and hasn't Selma Blair developed great fashion sense? Dreamy, bright colours and classic but with a twist designs. Lovely

Oh yes and the first official clanger is Christine Aguilera. What a surprise
