Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

yes, it is way too difficult to edit layouts for blogs and change the commenting properties... I'm thinking about making a whole new layout, original and unique, but I don't know where to start! lol, I can design the layout on Dreamweaver but then, when I have to transfer the code to blogger is a whole new world

Ohh could i have some feedback too?

Although i don't think my blog is very fashion forward:lol:

A questions to those possessing knowledge in copyright. How does it work if you're running a site and post other people's pictures on it? do you have to ask for permission or pay the owner?

Technically, Yes ... to both. Sometimes permission will be granted without paying ... but the point in taking photos, in most cases is to be able to sell usage rights and make a profit. The owner is almost always the photographer that took them ... unless he was hired by a company to take them and signed off his rights to that comany.

It's a very slippery slope ... using images without havin legal "usage rights" to display them. Most bloggers do not have the rights and have opened themselves up to lawsuits byt the copyright holders (the "owners").

You may buy usage rights to photos from companies like Getty and Corbis and other stock photo companies ... and the rate they charge you depends on how, where and how long you want to display them.

homeboy : i wonder if using pictures that illustrate a "review" or "critics" is really a big issue.... the pictures you're taken are there to inform people...
and honestly blogging is a whole new way of writing and create informations... i doubt people will sue for such a thing...
+ if they don't want the images to be taken they have possibility with internet systems for their images not to be taken (when you can't download the image with the right click for instance...)
but if the pictures you're taken are from a young artist/photog' or something.... maybe you could ask him/her.... moreover he/she'll be happy to talk about it with you... and that you get interest into his/her works....

I have a question about images on my blog. I'm new to this and me and some friends decided to get a blog together. Can we post picks from runway shows? and if we can where can we get them? If we take pictures on the street of people do we need there written permission?

you can find runway images in style.com, and if you are going to post pics you have taken of other people, i think you should ask them before. I think that is how scott schumann works, lol
I always write the credit after the image

Another doubt that comes to my mind... which is the number of visitors you consider "important"? You know, there is a moment that the daily visitors average reaches a certain amount when you think they are "so many visitors".

When is a blog popular? From 1000 visitors per day? 2000 maybe?
Style Bubble receives 10.000 visits per day or so. I think that is a high amount.

What do you think?

Can some explain to me feeds and feed burner?

Also if you are using the classic template on blogger, are you on able to add the - add this! widget?

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread and to thefashionspot in general

Can I can some feedback on my blog? :flower:

And also a general question - what do people want to see on a fashion blog??

I'm excited that I came across this post. It's really interesting finding out about the different ways to promote your site, etc
I too recently started a blog and I just want to say how much fun it is! It's like working for yourself and you being your own editor.

I like the color palette of your blog a lot!!! ^_^:flower:

Q: How do you get to receive so many comments? Is your blog new or established? :flower:

Thanks for the feedback :)
Hm, wish I could give a good answer to this question but to be honest I'm not exactly sure why... I like to leave comments myself, so maybe that's why? ;) I started Glam & Tonic last summer so I've been blogging for almost a year on and off ;P

Yeah, I think it's good to leave comments on many different blogs.
I'm gonna start to comment a lot more often than now. ^_^ So I hopefully get more readers.
