Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

Welcome to the FashionSpot, mode-ulation and Francheska! :flower:

Just so you know .. anyone who posts their blog in this thread is asking for a critique to learn how to improve it. In fact, we don't allow members to post links for promotional purposes, other than in your signature.

So if you get any tips or criticisms, either here or by Personal Message ... you'll know that it's because you asked. ;)

I was recently inspired by the couture shows to start writing a fashion blog (http://righttoshoes.wordpress.com) and so far it's mostly just runway reports. I'm wondering if I should try to inject a more personal element into it though, but I'm so used to writing from a third-person perspective and never using the word "I" so I'm not sure exactly how to do it in a natural way.

I like your style of writing ... and it just seems like real journalism in the third person ... news reporting. It's descriptive and paints a picture in the mind ... definiltely a good thing.

You need to consider what you want for the "feel" of your blog. If it's jounalistic reporting, this works well in the third person.

If you want to change the vibe of your blog to be more person to person or more about what you are seeing and feeling, you could switch to using first person and talk more more about your personal experiences while at the shows, etc. But you'd have to actually be there in order to do this sucessfully, I would think ... since readers would be interested in a first hand look. You could add personal perspectives about the collections ... say things like you had your breath taken away by a certain piece, or that you found a collection to be sad and akin to the current economic woes ... things like that. To make it more personal, talk about how you feel about the collections, what appeals, what doesn't and why.

The difference is clear ... the former is about the collections themselves and news and comments that are swirling around. The latter is how you see them and how it makes you feel ... on a personal level. Neither is better than the other, I would say. It's a personal choice about what you want to put out to the public.

For years I've wanted to start a clothing/style blog and I've just begun to find the time and motivation! I want to incorporate more pictures of my own style, but I normally take horrible self portraits. I'd love to receive some feedback. :)

^ I like the layout a lot... love your header.
So far I like the content a lot as well. ^_^ You keep it interesting and consistent.

my blog is in my signature...my issue is people leaving comments
i would rather have feedback n stuff so i know what to change

Maybe at the end of each post, you should invite readers to comment? Say something like "Agree? Don't agree? Have something to add? Want to see a change in this blog? Please Leave a comment!"

Wellits really about takingthem on a white wall so its clean and easy to see. Maybe get someone else to do it, or focus on one type of area. e.g shoes.

A Different Type of Fashion Blog

I have recently created a new blog. It is called "The Write of Fashion". It deals with my own personal stories and how fashion effects the topic of the post. I would like feedback from my fellow members, any and all constructive criticism. Please note that this is not a report on what designers are doing or a "what I'm wearing today" type of blog. It is more about telling a story and personal observation. I'm kind of tired of the millions of bolgs I see that have relatively the same info. My goal was to dig a little deeper into the soul. I am a new member and would like to get to know some of you that are of a like mind. Please feel free to leave any comments, and to subscribe. If you have a blog I would also like to check it out. Peace! Perlouez

A bit occupied so haven't had time to read it through, but more paragraphs. The blocks of text are too large and looks very daunting. People rarely sit down to read a blog like they read a book, so make it look interesting and not too, as I said daunting. Make some sub-headtitles, bigger quotes, something like that.

I am curious on how to improve my blog, I just started, but its really just my opinion on fashion, a place to express images I have saved, as well as my thoughts on fashion:blush:

I also have a question. I have many images on my computer and well, I can't really give credit as I don't really remember where I found them...
so I left a disclaimer on the bottom of my page, is that alright?

if its a question on comments, i think if you are commenting on other blogs too, and linking to others people will be interested to hear more from you.

its just a question of getting round ;)
message me if you need more help

I agree that commenting on other peoples blogs are important. In the name of that, I checked out your blog, and found a post that I wanted to comment on... I couldn't though, because writing that comment wasn't important enough for me to register at blogger.com :innocent: So I think it's important to let people comment with name/URL.

Good point, thanks for pointing that out to me i had no idea! i dont want anon comment though, but i like the idea of letting more people comment so i shall take a chance thankss!

Hi I just wanted to ask how some blogs have "inspiration" on the side of their blog, i.e. Miss At La Playa. I would love to do that but I don't know how to. Please tell me.:flower:
