short article from WWD:
SOMETHING BLUE: It looks like Alber Elbaz is ready to pop the question. Rumor has it the Lanvin designer, who is slated to show his pre-spring collection during couture in Paris next month, will also unveil his first bridal designs for the house.

should be beautiful

:woot:  Anything that Alber touches turns to gold! Bridal gowns + Lanvin + Alber Elbaz =

funny thing...I recall seeing a weddng dress he made for some sort of a countess in a magazine, and it stuck in my mind as one of his best designs. It was off-white tafetta with very soft tiers, and it looked so graceful and light.

should be good!:woot:

He's most likely doing it for fun. If he wants to go full force with it most likely he will just sell the name as does Karl, Valentino, Saab, Badgley Mischka, etc.

I really can't wait for this!!
He's super talented

I don't think Alber would do that ...

And, very excited about the news!

Really? So a company that is notorious for having slow deliveries and always pushing back dates with their retailers is going to be its own manufacturer of items that must come in with a specific time frame and if they are even a week or two late cause the client/bride to flip out because she has already been counting down the days for the 3-6months that she has to wait for it?

I think it has more to do with Alber Elbaz wanting to preserve Lanvin ready to wear as a house that keeps it's image 'pure' rather than washed down by lucrative licensing deals.

there are certain houses that do the small bijoux, the jeans, the bridal wear sorted out, but i think that's a trend that is somewhat dying out. in the long view, you destroy a brand when you don't have complete control over distribution and imagery.

What is it anyway that drives retail for sooner and sooner deliveries? the sales are starting sooner with every year and the heavy wintercoats keep on beeing delivered when it's so hot outside that the least you want to do is try on clothing like this.

That's my point. I wasn't saying he WAS going to do it that way; but, we are not going to see an entire bridal line from Lanvin...but, rather a gown or two now and then that can be special ordered from their boutiques.

I wonder though, will it be a full on bridal collection or will he be doing custom bridal pieces, which seems like the more likely option in this case.

Edit- Someone beat me to that point.

Still with his talent for dressmaking, I'm intrigued to see what his take on tradition will be.

As per their deliveries...when other vendors are 75% shipped you have Lanvin that is 25% and sending in the most random assortment of goods.

mm.. good choice.. but I like Lanvin's 'darker' aesthetic and if he can translate that into a beautiful wedding dress.. *swoon*

Wasn't there an all white Lanvin collection sold at Dover street market? I could have sworn that he took Lanvin's current "hits" and just did them in white. I am sure the gowns will be absolutely beautiful...

Exactly ... I can't think of anyone more serious about having a small boutique brand/house (and not getting a big head). If Alber woke up as Karl Lagerfeld, his first call would probably be to Dr Kevorkian
