Alexander McQueen F/W 11.12 : Raquel Zimmermann by David Sims

this looks stunning!

my only issue is that in the first pic, they made her legs look REALLY short. i mean, wtf.

^Yeah, its my point of view, thats why i posted it, sorry you disagree with that .

My point is that the whole point of NOT doing a campaign was that their shows were the advertising, why McQueen pumped so much money into the shows and now they have become lackluster this is what they decide to do, a campaign.

^Yeah, up until like 2003 ? i suppose its a new strategy for McQueen, i guess, my point was its a shame they've turned out so commercial, oh well.

^ I understand your point. At one point most fashion houses were only coveted by rich and not commercial like LV or Dior once was and, now with McQueen's death, it's transitioned to being commercial. Whether he would have approved or disliked the change he's become Iconic and the more fans the merrier. My only gripe would be if the brand becomes so distilled that it becomes completely unrecognizable to McQueen's true vision.

I think McQueen was able to get by in the past with little advertising. But my guess is McQueen is now expanding their campaign because they have to, in order to keep business going. They probably feel that more advertising is necessary now for competing with other fashion houses. I think because now there is not just print advertising but digital advertising, McQueen no longer feels comfortable with just coverage in editorials and its pieces being worn by public figures. Had Lacroix adapted and become more commercial, perhaps they would have never gone under.

Yeah they look like posters for a Sci Fi film. I wish some more thought could have gone into this. But obviously these will sell.

hmm. i might be wrong, but i don't think McQueen has been able to sell a lot, back in the days, did he?

^ Precisely. Lee himself was not a fan of commercialism and had no intent on becoming so perhaps it was he who held the label back from producing larger profits.

I'm trying to like this but there's just something off about this. It does remind me of Sci-Fi movie posters or Pagan Metal album covers but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think it might be Raquel's stiff poses that I don't like here. Anyways, I definitely liked previous McQueen campaigns MUCH better than this.

If i'm brutally honest with my opinion, Who cares what they do.

Its Sarah's Brand now. She was with Lee for such a long time and she knows what she is doing.

Sure Lee hated Commercialism and blah blah whatever....that era has gone and its Sarah's turn in the spotlight. If she tried to emulate what McQueen did people would ridicule her more for not being herself.

If she wants a Campaign, she can have a campaign. And after rummaging round under that huge Grey dress for a £1 coin I dropped in the Showroom....The image makes it look as epic as it is in real life.

Still though whatever he was doing, it was obviously enough to keep the fashion house afloat. I would consider that getting by.

What is Raquel doing in Middle Earth? What a horrible idea, executed so horribly.

then you must not know how the fashion industry works. brands like McQueen can be in the red for years and years until they hit a sweet spot with some accessory that will slowly help them out of the red. they 'get by' by being in permanent debt. some companies are even just kept around for their prestige, even if they sell barely thing.
