Alexander McQueen F/W 12.13 Paris

I find it interesting that people say Sarah has been doing the same clothes over and over, then say this collection is ugly or something — while a season or two ago everyone was wowed.

What the eff is this? This is one ugly and pretentious collection. I've never been the biggest fan of Sarah's, but everything she has produced thus far have been very visually pleasing. The problem I have with her is I feel nothing looking at her collections, there's never much depth to them. Now with this collection, I'm even more certain Sarah is all about superficiality.

I really can not believe this was produced under the McQueen brand. She's delivering drama, but the drama is faux. There is so much gimmick in this collection, I can't even begin to count. This collection is so pretentious. It looks like it was designed by someone inexperienced and is trying to gain attention by producing anything that is flashy and showy. It's a collection that caters to the fashion victims. I'm appalled by this.

Im just trying to calculate the shipping cost to get those finale dresses (or even their material) from London to Paris....

Every season I come into this thread to defend Sarah Burton, but I can't defend her for this. Some of the tamer looks are OK, but the majority is pretty tacky to me :(

i share these same exact sentiments. usually i take time digesting collections, and pore over various reviews/details as to understand the inspiration behind the finished products, but this is the first time since Sarah Burton's debut that i feel like going through this same routine won't help anymore. i hate making such generalizations but the heavyhandedness present in these looks just dissuades me from being interested any further. these elemental furball looks just doesn't seem to have any actual core. like a cake made entirely of icing, which sounds delightful at first, but really isn't.

McQueen before has done exceedingly well reinforcing his seasonal ideas by a careful balance between theatrics and subtlety; Burton's team meanwhile seems only to have bothered with the former this time around. i hope more pictures/details/reviews comes out that might make this collection do a Balenciaga and make me like it eventually, but as for now i just feel sorely dismayed. what a mess.

I loved Sarah, but this is the last straw. This has to be one of the tackiest collections shown this season. She's good at doing the same thing every season, but at least she can make beautiful clothes. This is just terrible. It just makes me sad that Lee is gone. There's no more darkness, not more romance. It's a plain fashion show. The clothes are tailored and the craftsmanship is mindblowing, but it doesn't make the collection good. Someone needs to slap some sense into this woman and tell her that doing the same thing continuously and then doing something new and AMAZING, then going to terrible, is just not the McQueen standard. There needs to be a sense of romance, like you never know what to expect, but this no where near cuts it.

God. I'm so boring of all her "ice queens" every season, and thank god this collection is BAD, because now she would have to put all the "other side of the Mcqueen brand" the roughness, the agressive part... that's been messing for a long long time

Well, I guess I am the complete minority...I think this is GORGEOUS! Seriosuly! Everything about it---completely stunning. I wish she would change up the shoes, but I like this a lot...they feel like cyber-alien snow-bunnies from some cave in the Alps...and the last dress and the dresses in the middle w/ the midriff and sleeves attached to the skirt is just beyond! Very graphic and powerful images here! I wouldn't want to see a dark McQueen, that chapter ended when McQueen died. This is a woman's McQueen, a lighter McQueen. And personally, I am 100% fine with that! Adoring this! Can't wait for a video!!! And those red dresses-yum!

these elemental furball looks just doesn't seem to have any actual core. like a cake made entirely of icing, which sounds delightful at first, but really isn't.

OMG, I LOVE the phrase "elemental furball looks"!

I agree. There are some stunning details here but it just lacks soul, inspiration, something. I'm not sure what. But at first it looks so gorgeous.

I feel like I need to walk away from this collection, cleanse my palate and look at it again another day.

There's literally nothing about this that says "McQueen". Nothing.

I'm honestly over her runway work because not only is there an ever broadening disconnect between what she presents and what ends up in stores, the runway collections are all special effects at this point, like AgrenateD said, all icing, no cake. It's all painstaking, it's all couture-level, but that's all there is to it. You don't gasp because these are stunning garments, you gasp because they're overwhelming to look at.

Somehow this reminded me of Galliano's Ukrainian Brides' collection from 2009. Sarah just can't be serious... If Alexander was alive, he would never approve of this.

Well, I thought the worst thing that could happen to this would be pretentiosnes. I wasnt particularly amazed by her cliche-beautiful stuff, although it was a bit cliche-concept-y it was still beautiful and the embillishments looked really well done.

But.... Fur balls?are you f!cking kidding me?

Truth! I normally hate short snarky quips in D&C, but this collection fully deserves every one it gets, it truly looks inspired by dogs -- french poodles and afghans to be exact.

Burton gets worse every season.

agreed... i saw a variation on the goat theme that mcqueen explored in there also...

really just terrible though

at first i was trying to put a positive spin on it (in my head anyway), thinking, she's trying to channel the spirit of mcqueen and be different, and push boundaries, but then I scrolled down and it was just so ugly.

She was repetitive these last few seasons, but at least the stuff she was churning out was beautiful and was in line with the brand identity.

total fail.

I thought I had clicked on Alexander's Wang thread or something, definitely the wrong Alexander here.

I don't the this is anything the same as the past season she has done! You can truly say that this collection is a joke! Did she got bored or what? Editorial yes but no depth at all!

I don't know what I just saw, but it was terrible whatever it was. This is not the McQueen I fell in love with ):

I was getting a very serious Viktor & Rolf vibe.
This is horrible ! A lot of it is mostly furballs as many have said. It's shapeless and unappealing.

At first I thought I accidentally clicked on a Christian Siriano collection from a few season back or something. But I guess I didn't.:ninja:
