Alexander Wang

meg,
i agree. i am also finding that all this talk about who is copying who is not really relevant. everyone is copying everyone except those who have been there for some time and still are. those, i call them dinosaurs! ... so endangered species of course!
other than that, what this guy does is no different to anyone else who is fairly new on the block. he has a specific idea and contrary to what people say he does have a style... imo at least.
his last show was so distinctive... nothing genius as i mentioned earlier but HIS style. noone did anything like him this season.
he screams new wave; 80s and that is very clear throughout his entire brand/image.
true, i can take out some old baggy gap jeans, roll them up and dig out an old blazer and recreate his SS08 look but one can say that about many collections these days, no? ;)

i like this post

i really like his work . . it's fresh + cool . .

i agree that it's nothing new or groundbreaking . .
and perhaps in that sense it is more styling than designing
but whatever it is . . it works !!

it actually reminds me quite a bit sometimes of what mk + ashley olsen are trying to do with the row
contemporary basics with great cuts in neutral colours that have a bit of an edge and are easy to mix + match

I recently tried on one of his long sleeve tees at BNY in Santa Monica and must say that it was amazing. The fabric was was amazingly thin and soft but a little too sheer / translucent for me. The cut was spot on for my frame.

Great as a layering piece but I couldn't see spending $155 for something that would never see the light of day unless I'm at home or wanting to get picked up in West Hollywood.

adorefaith, i couldnt agree with you more about the styling. I really think its in the details

tricotine,
i agree it depends who is targeted. but to me it is very clear who he is trying to target and although his line in particular is not demi couture, it IMO sits very well if not right next to it but not far from it in a store.
i am seeing it from a wider perspective not from a personal one only. ive been buying all kinds of brands for many different markets/customers (be it Oscar de la Renta, Matthew Williamson, Proenza, or Shirin Guild) and always have all departments i buy for in mind and try and see where a certain brand could fit in.
i agree that one "hot" brand might not do as well in one store as in another.
but the big players/retailers no matter which part of the world they are located do in fact all want the same brands season after season and i believe Alexander Wang is aiming to be in the "big" stores.
all i needed to look at is his website, his collection to realise and get a feel for him and i am sure they are very picky which stores they go for.
i would still like to emphasize though that his collections are not genius but the whole package is. 80s are back if you ask me :)

Completely agree with this. He really knows how to present himself and his collection.

Is Erin Wasson his stylist?
she is styling the fw 08 show...
it says so on the invite...which is VERY unusual...
stylists et al are listed in the show program usually but not usually on invites...

^_^

Is it just me or does his stuff run really small?
I have a few pieces from the F/W 07 and S/S 08 collections and they are teeny tiny! I don't know if it'll be that way for all the oversized looking things in F/W 08...

I love his clothes but they definitely are overpriced (especially since he claims they are affordable/reasonable)... doesn't really stop me (or other people, considering his hype and popularity) from buying but...

Anyway I want every piece from the F/W 08 collection, and Erin's body jewelry line!

yes it's totally obvious that Alex's stuff are way overpriced - i mean, hundreds of dollars for some torn item of clothing? i wish he would consider going in a new direction rather than repeating this dirty/dishevelled/model-on-casual-duty thing.

he's been doing that for several seasons now, and it just feels so tired. i dont think i would want to pay $500 for a pair of dirty torn denim shorts.

yeah, it's played out.
everything was probably fit on his muse erin.
she is so loud and annoying. i see her around all the time. so "look at me loud"

I watched videos of the two of them, and I must say I prefer both of them with their mouths shut and just the clothes presented. I do like Erin's style but I can totally believe she is "look at me loud".. LoveInBohemia if you don't mind me asking is she that loud and annoying? How does she look in person?

While I think it's overpriced, I feel like it's not unlike other contemporary brands, they are mostly overpriced imo. I do feel some of the things are really ridiculously priced though, I've seen a shirt by him that is like 750 dollars and is a silk blend, and from the photos the construction doesn't look like it's anywhere near worth the price. I guess if you don't like it you just shouldn't buy it... but I like his designs, and I end up giving in...

Hi pingy.
She is actually- absolutely stunning, no make up, tan-even skin, young skin, thick eyelashes and brows, so she doesn't need make up...
I've seen her twice- Once at "Lovely Day" and another time at "Pink Pony" in NYC (restaurants)
She was with that other model Noot Seer and I just felt she had a major potty mouth. She was sitting on the bench and just kind of "F this, F that" laughing SOOO loud and it looked like she was making fun of someone or talking about someone- not sure who- didn't bother to look. They just wanted people to def look. because it's not like she is paris or nicole or some celebutante...only real fashion people would know her.
I also saw her wearing a really weird overall jeans with a tube top- really weird and really 80s.
At lovely day, she was with alexander wang and they were in their own world with each other, before I knew who he was, I thought they were dating. He seems gay, but then again, who knows...but they were just louder than the place. If you have been there it's really small. I was not interested in her conversation but surprised that someone so pretty had some a potty mouth and just obnoxious for people to notice her.
She def has the look like "she looks familiar"..
I bet he would sell more if the prices were half.

what's his sizing like? because they are some great jeans from him on bluefly and i am unsure whether to order a zero or a two...

I hate answering sizing questions for fear of giving the wrong info, but I find his clothing runs pretty small. I go between a 0 and 2 in most brands, and there is no way I could wear a 0 in his clothes, same with the dresses I have to wear a small and not an x-small. Those jeans are amazing by the way!

Grr they have my cashmere striped red & grey dress for a steal for anyone who wears a medium (small), it is heaven.

$750 for a shirt from HIM? That's definetly seems overpriced...

Thanks for sharing LoveInBohemia...

^^Thanks so much for the info heather! I figured I should probably get a two considering they look fairly fitted and they have a high waist. Don't worry about it, if they are the wrong size, I can just exchange them.
I'm also going to get this top:

bluefly

the jeans

bluefly

I thought it might be ok to order this in a zero because it has kind of a slouchy fit but now I don't know...

I actually think the zero top would be smart, most of his shirts do seem loose on people, and gosh that one is amazing! I didn't even know Bluefly carried his clothes so thanks for posting, now if I could just decide what I want...ha.

Thanks guys!
I'm away from my house right now on vacation, but I can't wait to order them when I come home! :woot:
