Alison Goldfrapp blasts Madonna

Hooray for Goldfrapp! All Madonna does is leach off other cultures and regurgitate it back out contaminated with her "Madge-ness"

Quite a lame atempt to get urself in the headlines, specialy while u try to promote ur new record in US...

Shame coz Goldfrapps music has quality, they dont need gossip to sell.

And everybody knows that Madge is the original copycat, really Alison didnt say anything new, and excuse me but Goldfrapp also uses recycled ideas whats wrong with that?

^^ hmm not quite in the same way though eh? At least they write originally and creatively, not just adding some lyrics someone else has written to a sampled track biiiiiiig difference. HUGE.

I remember this in the early 90's with Deee-lite's "I Believe in the Power of Love" from their World Clique album. Madonna then had a eerily reminiscent single called "Rescue Me".

Everybody does this, though. Always. Since ancient times. But it's still fun to pick on madonna.:p

I truly love Madonna but I've always said that she has dumbed down music for the masses. She's really not as creative or as innovative as she would like you to believe. For example, the Vogue style of dancing had been around for a bit before she introduced it to the public. Whenever anyone thinks of Vogue, you immediately think of Madonna.

I still love her though. She does give kick-*** concerts.

this being said, goldfrapp's first album sounded a HELL lot like portishead. and the 2nd cd is very 80s inspired.
.
Have you actually listened to Felt Mountain? Portishead was trip-hop and they sampled alot with their sound as well. Plus, they didn't use alot of organic instrumentation in juxtoposition with the experimental usage of electronics like Goldfrapp did there.

Umm and excuse me but Goldfrapp recycling ideas...seriously do you actually listen to their music?? They're always so fresh in how they compose their ideas into songs with many different layers and influences. It's not always so blatant where their ideas are derived. Okay, maybe a bit more with Supernature but the last ones were so incredibly original.

oh and as for Alison coming out with this...I don't think she made it a point to go to the media regarding this. I think during an interview or something she just made this comment.

Alison Goldfrapp needs to climb out of her **** as soon as posible. I work at XFM and she came in for an interview and was one of the most rudest b*tches I have ever had the misfortune to meet....From start to end, the woman had a chip on her shoulder, and for no good reason.I was incredibly disappointed cos I thought highly of her before that point.

Her performance at the gig we put on at the Ritz was comical too...the highlight being when her dancers came on. She then bemoaned to us how it was a sh*t night but that was because she just didn't want to be there....and made no effort to hide that fact....despite all the lovely loyal fans that turned up to see her....She was as obnoxious as hell to them and I've lost count of the amount of negative feedback we've received since...

I think Madonna is a pile of balls generally speaking but if she sells as many albums as Madonna and proves she has staying power, then maybe she can talk the talk....

Scott - take my word for it, Alison makes a point of going to the press when she needs a moan. Like idiots, we lap it up.

^did you guys realise beforehand that she has the reputation for hating interviews? I know you've heard all the stories about her attitude because it's the second thing everybody talks of other than the music when mentioning Goldfrapp. Alison I've noticed since the beginning,is an extremely moody girl....very timid as well. I don't think it really has anything to do with having a chip on her shoulder.

I am sure that Madonna has been very bored of her feud with Elton John and will welcome a new one with open arms! She doesn't seem to be well-liked these days... I always adored Cyndi Lauper better than Madonna, but Madonna did open a lot of doors in the 80s (both good and bad).

We know she has that reputation, but to see it up close and personal was incredibly ugly. She needs to get realistic and play the game.....I'm sure most musicians hate doing interviews - but tough t*tties, it's part of the process. They need the media to peddle their music so they should learn how to get along with it. For god's sake, how many singers out there that would love to be in her position.....?

And Yes she's moody, but timid she aint. She's very sure of herself and quite frankly, a very rude person. Which is why I think she definietly has some chip on her shoulder.

True words indeed but I guess working like Madonna does is the only way to stay in the business over a long periode of time.

Anyway, good to see that not every female Singer wants to make out with Madge!

I think it's a shame when people have amazing jobs and so much luxury and oppurtunity and waste it by being rude. You see so many stars like that.

^and Madonna has not been rude in ripping off artists who are lesser known than her and probably considered as her peers? So in she saying so publically, she is rude?

And talking about longevity... if Alison and Will Gregory aren't around as long as Madge(although I do hope they have long career like Depeche Mode)so what..what's important is they're music will become instant classicsimportant and remain relevant for years and years to come-I think their music will be picked up by future generations to come like alot of people now just discovering Kate Bush. They just have that kind of resonance, imo. I'm sorry but one cannot say that about Madonna. Madonna's truly about capturing what's trendy and hip at that particular moment so her music becomes a bit passè after some time. She doesn't have a real sense of artistry.

there are entertainers, and there are artists. madonna is an entertainer. she's a brand, but she's a follower - she HAS to be to market the brand.
