American Horror Story

surprised how quickly this is coming up...last year it felt like we waited weeks after the season finale of the bridge before AHS premiere.

to me that's the way you do a premiere. the opening credits are the best i've seen of the series so far. i'm usually not too easily frightened by horror but that bloody clown scared the ever-living hell out of me. creepy clowns always do that to me somehow. loving that pepper is back and hopefully she'll having more storyline in this than asylum.

i wouldn't say i absolutely loved the premiere yesterday. but i was thrilled to watch it !!!!

i was filled with questions. silly and dumb ones. like: really freak shows did still in exist in the 1950s ?
W O W. Was this such a long time ago, the 1950s ? (Damn, I felt young, for once)... That's not even my mom's generation.
And that's gonna sound dumb-dumber but siamese were freaks ? damn i'm young !:cool:

Casting is perfect. my favorites are here, or will be in next episodes.

I liked how Jessica Lange has this german accent that sometimes (for long and un-catchy lines) she just speaks good english, with the "r" sort of rolling (the german way, not the spanish way). But I'm no english-speaker native, so ...
Her "particularity" is soooo Aviva from RHONY ! I mean did you not think of this ?:stuart::clap:

oh and i was both shocked and thrilled about this p*rn/brothel story line ... hope this will continue ... :P:innocent:

OMG I'm so excited the "next on AHS" at the end made me wanna see more (that's why i prefer do marathon!!!)

i'm also interested into Lange's past. like is something german-ish WWII will happen? or is it going to be a sort of mcguffin ?

and the BOWIE moment !
:heart::flower:

loved everything.
actually.

YES and YES.
This clown is freaking freaking me out !
Gonna do nightmares !

oh and there's this little guy ...
(i posted pictures of him!) ... euh isn't he isabella blow much ? love the headdress, guy !!! will keep an eye on his wardrobe.
:bounce::clap:

my screencaps. let's start a fashion recap.
gorgeous outfit for Lange at the beginning. the "pencils" on the legs. the red dress, the headdress (again - that was a time for hats, and stuff! loved it), the bag (loved it), the fur (loved it - something sort of cruela).

To go back on the opening credits.
there's some sex in there. and some siamese actions !! :rolleye:
check the 3 last ones. you have the "big moment" of the opening credits (hiding, freak example, clown turning heads, more clowns, and sex - so sex is gonna be a good plot line, i guess. angela b. is having 3 boobs - and therefore it reminds me of the hoax - ... hoax and truth).

my screencaps.

that's the only part that didn't really connect to me....i loved the performance it but i would have expected something a bit more current to that era than a bowie tune released in 1971. it would have made more sense being a former cabaret performer in berlin had it been say a kurt weill piece from threepenny opera.

freakshows or sideshows more generally, were still operating but that's when they really started to decline and that's kind of what the show's premise revolves around. this struggling sideshow trying to maintain its prevalence in a world becoming more and more offended with the exploitation of it all. some towns, like the town in florida the show is based on,actually remained at least till recent years residency of a large sideshow community.

ok. cool to know.

I love this show!

Just watched the first episode of Freak Show and it was pretty good, not incredibly scary but very entertaining. Can't wait for Emma Roberts to show up!

I´m slightly disappointed at the premiere episode, was expecting more... the pacing was too slow imo.
But still, it looks very promising. So far, I´m most interested in the evil clown storyline, he reminds me of Captain Spaulding :)

AHS always had a clever and stylish atmosphere around it. This one did not.

I was so... bored...

All the other AHSs had me from the very beginning. Sure, Coven was a total mess, but the 1st episode promised so much. With Freak Show, nothing looked interesting, or fresh. Sarah and Jessica are great actors of course, but I think they've played their parts to death by now; Sarah as the tragically shunned, lonely but strong long-suffering type (who will prevail), and Jessica as the formerly glorious star who's holding onto her ailing and diminishing shine any which way she can. Their act has become tiring now for me. And what's with that really stupid performance of "Life on Mars"...? Guitar riffs? I get that they want to pull a neo post-modern piece and be stylish, but it was irritating and came off as such a Smashing Pumpkin wannabe moment.

The original 1920s Freaks film was fascinating, utterly disturbing and sad. This felt... mundane. I kept pausing to do something else-- or seeing how much time was left when I was watching this.

So... Scott's afraid of clowns... LOL I loved the creepy but so stylish clown posse from Batman Returns and the creepier but cute one from The Nightmare Before Christmas. This one? He came across more as depressed than psychotic.

I think Emma Roberts is the only one that I may be interested in tuning in to see. Other than that, I'll watch it when I have some time.

what does that sentence even mean ?
and why smashing pumpkin reference ? i've never listened to this band, so i'm just wondering...

she's surnamed Mars ... It is her (freaks) show ... Bowie was seen as a "freak", or "outsider"... Her blue costume obvs echoes the Bowie's costume from the clip... It is coming from the Heroes album... That makes sense to me ...

It had a sort of weak lynch-ish vibe.

i don't know, i probably am overthinking this ... but i feel there's a certain film noir (or neo noir... ahah. sorry i laugh everytime i see neo writing somewhere ...) atmosphere....
something i havent noticed before in AHS

and this image looks like a mix of gober and bellmer. and that is pretty cool.
give them credit. they know what they're doing.

my most terrifying clown moment was IT ! I watched that movie when I was a little kid... And damn, I was scared for months ! I'm pretty sure I would still be scared if I were to watch it now...

The premiere was a bit disappointing, but I guess it was just the introduction. Let's see how it goes along the way and with the other characters.

But seriously, what a tour de force Jessica gives in every single episode of this show. That last scene was Emmy worthy already.

I dunno, I always find AHS to be very slow to start. It's one of the reasons why the first season I didn't watch after the first few episodes, but then came back after all the hype (plus the black dahlia story/tie-in reeled me back).

it's been a bit slow for me as well,if not forgettable(as asylum's first episode with that overrated maroon 5 guy was),and i think that's why i was taken by surprise in this. certainly it lagged in a couple scenes but overall i think it fulfilled a certain anticipation in me.

phuel, yeah clowns....ever since i knew about that serial killer gacy i want to be nowhere near clowns. at least not those types of clowns, anyway. i do like harlequin clowns though.

Thanks to the high ratings for the first episode of Freak Show, AHS has been officially re-newed for a fifth series!

The premiere was alright, yeah a bit slow and it could have been an hour long. The Jimmy Darling experience parts would have been moved or deleted. I like that they are giving us the background info first and setting up the world.

I'm still not afraid of Twisty, yeah he looks creepy but I want to know his motives, why is he doing all this?

I think I'm going to love Gloria's character, Frances always nails her roles. I'm impressed with Jessica and her accent this season, normally she plays the same character but here it feels a tad bit different, same basis but a bit more vulnerable I guess. Sarah is ok, I have to give her props for the two roles but I can't find myself fanboying over her like most of the audience.

I can't wait for the next episode. I can't wait to meet Angela Bassett's and Emma Roberts' characters. I look forward to see how Wes Bentley and Matt Boomer turn out as well.

I thought the premier was good, it got me waiting for the next episodes. So it did its job, it wasn't the most fast paced but it did set up story lines and histories. The intro is my favorite so far! Thanks for the stills, there is so many little details to check out.

That is the scariest clown for me as well! isn't there talk of a remake? Or am I just crazy?

I don't find Twisty the scariest (yet!), yes he is a serial killer but like someone said he also seems sad to me. Like he wanted those kids to laugh but they didn't.

I loved seeing Pepper! and Salty! her twin, I'm really curious to see what happens to the two of them and why Pepper ended up in the Asylum but what about Salty.

BerlinRocks, I also adore Jessica's style and accent. and that brothel like movie reel was crazy.

Jimmy's side job is interesting  Sex does seem to be a big theme this season.

I think Sarah Paulson is doing a fantastic job portraying both Bette and Dot with their two very different personalities. While I like Jessica I am tired of her playing the same faded starlet grasping at her past glory. I can't wait for Wes Bentley.

I also like that Murphy cast Jyoti Amge, Erika Ervin and Mat Fraser along with the main cast.

With AHS, I'm always along for the ride, whether it's slow and bumpy at the start, or going at some crazy speed down the road to who knows where?

I didn't realise Mat Fraser was in it, until I saw the first episode. He's usually up for doing the unexpected.
