An excess of everything

i'm fully into fashion and hardly go shopping. it's not so much about money as it is about the fact that i dont like anything.
so i dont have an excess, no.
i'm exactly the same:lol:
colour doesn't suit complexion
doesn't suit hair
or doesn't suit weather
or is just too baggy
etc. etc. i'm too particular and picky that it is almost impossible to go shopping. if i do, i end up buying dark colours and that is too depressing:ninja: but now that i can make/dye my own clothes, things may change soon...

Yeah, I'm with monkey siesta.

Depending on my mood, I can either look in my wardrobe and feel promise or dread. It's usually effected by whether I'm having a good/bad hair day and how my makeup sits. If I feel good in myself, I feel more promising about how my clothes will look. Which usually makes me more inclined to experiment.

gius... what do you mean you can dye your own clothes? Would you care to elaborate? Sounds really interesting....:flower:

^ Perhaps you would like to take a look in our DIY forum...? :flower:

For instance, we have this thread: dying clothes

I'm in the process of moving, and it's kind of scary looking at all the clothes I've amassed over the years, especially considering I only wear like half of them..

i'm not sure what else to say--i just try to create fairly specific shades/tints to go with my particular personality:D it is just almost impossible for me to get a beautiful wardrobe through regular clothes shopping. it must be my odd skin tone that makes some colours too strong or too dirty and they end up making me look horrible, etc. etc. anyway it's all in my profile, my dear ;) feel free to post a comment/pm--i always try to reply soon:lucky:

Ok! Took a look at your profile and got what you mean... thanks!:flower:

Well, I totally fit this thread. I have a tiny bedroom with a smallish closet and an average sized dresser. Recently I had to expand to an underbed sweater box and a plastic Rubbermaid "dresser" with three drawers. I have two overflowing trunk cases full of jewelry. I have shoes in the closet, in the dresser and under the bed. My handbags have their own rack on the back of the door.

I'd really like to not buy anything else this year and just work with what I have. I've read in books and magazines that most people wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time and I'm definitely guilty of that. I have lots of cute hidden things that need to see the light of day, especially in my jewelry box as I've collected about 8 years' worth of vintage costume jewelry.

Limiting myself to create outfits out of only what I already have would make for a great, if potentially frustrating, creative challenge. It'd allow me to save money for things that really matter -- to spend money on necessities and on great experiences, not just objects. Plus it's more ethical -- for a whole year I would drastically reduce my (unintentional) support of sweatshops.

Has anyone else ever tried something like this?

I'm currently in the process of packing (moving in February) and I'm going insane! And I don't even have that much. Ugh, sometimes I would like to just get rid of it all. I have troubles with emotional attachment sometimes, although I'm getter better. Just two days ago I filled up an entire trash bag with clothes to donate. w00t!
Now for the rest of the crap in my closet....

Lol, I wish I had that problem. My collection is very small at this moment.

i'm trying this right now. haven't doubled any outfits or even pieces in a month (it was an unofficial new years resolution) it has worked out really well for me. i feel more like myself and like i am much more stylish because making outfits out of stuff you normally don't wear makes you feel good when it is a sucess. it has taken me a little longer to get ready in the morning but i think it is defenently worth it. so it has worked for me so far...

I try to get pieces that I can wear over and over and maybe get like 1-2 key pieces per season and I still have a couple of bags full of stuff I don't wear. I guess it's natural. But I do try to get simple things and dress up my outfit with accessories

there are some things i regretted getting but i am pretty happy with most of my things. i am not a hoarder so i usually go for the best that i can afford. i have always entertained the thought of going minimalist but i haven't really gotten there yet LOL

I don't buy very much anymore. When I do get something it has to work with me and my other clothes. Though I am still trying to rid of all my old junk.

i totally get what you mean..

i have the most clothes/shoes/scarves/belts/bags out of all my friends...
and the're constantly borrowing stuff from me.. which i dont mind..

but.. because i realized the same thing while i was moving, my resolution this year is to NOT shop.

i've bought myself some stuff for my birthday, and some work clothes and other basics because i just started working, but im trying to refrain from "pleasure shopping"

i cant bring myself to throw any of my clothes away just yet, so im just going to try to wear as many items as possible this year, and at the end of the year i'll edit out some stuff that i dont need. give it away, throw it away, sell it, whatever.

this year... im trying to hold it back... get as much use as possible out of the clothes i already own... you know? :)

I sometimes accumulate so much stuff that I feel guilty and I have too force myself to slow down.

I have so many great classic pieces that simply do not get worn because there is always a new item that takes priority in my wardrobe.

I used to be into minimalist dressing and now that I am moving away from that it is hard to see clearly what is going to have lasting potential. I will try to buy less on the high street this year.
