'ANTM' To Have Vogue Italia Cover as a Prize

she wasnt booked for that shoot by the producers of antm or tyra banks as a prize for antm, her being in that shoot had nothing to do with antm...so thats not associating yourself with the show itself, he happend to choose someone who had appeared on the show he chose her for whatever reason probably more or less as a filler, but he still chose her on his own terms not tyra or some pannel of judges...sooooo:rolleyes:, i highly doubt that he would directly tie himself to antm, i mean what does that say for the magazine...be on americas next top model and you can win a cover of vogue shot by steven miesel ha, not likely to happen, i mean if he doesnt like the girl he isnt going to shoot her, so its unlikely hes going to shoot some random wannabe model from a realtiy show, and if he does the winner will have obviously been chosen from the very start...
A lot of the models who walk the high fashion runway and appear in Vogue editorials are not highly skilled models, many of them are awkward and their emotional range runs from A to A minus. The reason why Meisel is so highly regarded is because of his ability to work with inexperienced and perhaps even untalented models, and make something interesting and beautiful. Of course more often than not, he works with talented models, but I think a lot of the Meisel legend was built on his work with fresh faces, many of whom did not survive their flavor of the month status. I liked the FW 2010 Balenciaga campaign, but come on, awkward much? Having said that, I am not sure that the winner will get THE cover of Vogue Italia and whatever VI cover / supplement she gets, Tyra is going to be smizing right beside her (I suspect that she is the one that Franca Sozzani really wants on the cover and to continue pimping the Vogue Black web site). Yes, Tyra is ridiculous, but she is a significant figure in pop culture - probably because she is ridiculous, and is more than likely a bigger player now than when she was actually modeling.

I hope/wonder if this also means they'll use better photographers and less cheesy concepts for the photo shoots throughout the season...

Tyra Announces Partnerships with IMG & Vogue Italia

Hi Y’all,

Many of you are asking what’s up about all this news lately. First, it was my x-eye-tingggg announcement about my new book series coming out next summer, then all this stuff about me partnering up with the top model management company, IMG, and then partnering with Italian Vogue (also known as Vogue Italia) for it to be the magazine on America’s Next Top Model. Well, it’s all true… and you are way smart, asking me if somehow this is all tied together.

The answer? Uh huh.

The simple way to explain it is that it’s all about helping people turn their dreams into reality. Modelland will be a series of novels that sends the message to young girls and women – and guys too – that you have to celebrate your dreams every day in your real life, so you can really go for it. And at the books’ heart is my mission to expand the definition of beauty so that we all can feel beautiful, inside and out.

Italian Vogue is going to be in the making-dreams-real business for me, helping me turn the girls we discover on America’s Next Top Model into authentic, international high fashion models. Italian Vogue is it, when it comes to fashion magazines, and they’re going to put our winner on the COVER. No, not on page 173 next to the ad for anti-aging cream… ON THE COVER. This is huge. Put that together with the magnificent ALT (aka André Leon Talley) as the new judge and we’re sure to stay on the opposite of Dreckitude for many cycles to come!! Shaking with excitement over here!!

Last, I joined IMG for a bunch of reasons… I’m building my company and I realized there are a lot of companies that I can help and that can help me as we try to build our businesses. We’ll do it together. I used to be with IMG five years ago and now it’s nice to return in a broader capacity. And to set the record straight, I’m not coming out of modeling retirement… IMG is such a huge company, there are many things I will be doing with them. Some fashion-related, but don’t expect to see me at any go-sees!

So, yeah, there’s a lot of stuff happening right now. They occasionally might seem like they’re not connected… BUT THEY ARE!!! You’re all so smart, I know you’ll figure it out.

Anyway, I’m excited that you’re lovin’ the news. And I’m working hard to make sure that I do right by y’all.

Fierce & Love,
Tyra aka TyTy

What's funny about this is that Tyra herself hasn't had an Italian Vogue (also known as Vogue Italia) Cover, I can see her turning up on set when the winner is being shot and teaching her how to be pose and be fierce and then she'll be like "Move Skank I'ma show you how it's done"! And we'll see her on the cover instead, very smart Ty-ty!

Vogue Italia is known for being the risk taker Vogue, their advertisers know this. Obviously ANTM is seen as some sort of Zoolander by the fashion world, the controversy as well as them getting a high fashion worthy girl are gonna garner plenty of attention. I have a feeling an IMG contract might also be on the package

HA after this it wont be....
conde nast needs to get rid of franca asap she ruining the magazine, what a downgrade, this is going to bad for the magazine, i mean whos going to take them serious after this, there going to lose alot of credability, i mean would carine, anna or alexandra have anything to do with antm..no

You know I was thinking the same exact thing about Tyra not having an Italian Vogue cover today earlier and thinking that she'd somehow find a way to put herself on the cover with the model.

^OMG That was my first thought too, Tyra likes attention so, she is doing all this to be in the cover with the model. This is the worst news I've heard lately, I mean great models like Abbey Lee or Natasha Poly with no cover but now some random model of ANTM will get one!!
Anyway fashion world is getting crazy lately.. unfortunately :(

You all act like Tyra could just sneak into the photoshoot and be like "Steven, do you mind if I get in the frame?" Obviously if Franca and Steven want her on the cover, she will be there. Also the whole partnership was initiated by Franca, who reached out to Tyra in order to create a partnership. Let's stop being ridiculous...

Anna Wintour supported Andre-Leon Talley's decision to join the show's panel as a judge.

People are so overly critical of the show but I'm not even certain they watch it anymore. Judgements about the decision should be reserved until the cast is revealed.

Maybe better girls will try out now. And knowing that Italian vogue is the magazine of choice, Tyra will actually pick a girl that can be model material not because of other reasons

So you believe it's a bad thing for Tyra to give a positive body image to younger girls? Even though I agree that the high fashion standarts are what they are, we're not forced to accept everything, especially when the heath of people is in danger: because the current runway models' body image is really not realistic or positive for that matter so I personally applaud Tyra for wanting to change this image, just like Marc Jacobs did for the casting of Louis Vuitton show or V or Cosmo magazines recently

If Tyra were really interested in changing this image, she would create her own fashion magazine and regularly use the contestants from America's Next Top Model on the cover. She would also find designers - desperate enough for publicity to be associated with this series - to appear on each episode and agree to hire the contestants that passed some sort of challenge.

Flooding the markert with laughable winners (Whitney, Saleisha) and eliminating girls that actually have the right look very early on (Lauren Brie, Gabrielle) do nothing to lend itself to the credibility of America's Next Top Model and everything to make it harder for the legitimate winners (Nicole, Dani) to get work.

Tyra might also try sending the message that women come in a variety of shapes and sizes instead of just her real! women! have! curves! shtick. Real women come in all shapes and sizes.

she wasn't booked for that shoot by the producers of antm or tyra banks as a prize for antm, her being in that shoot had nothing to do with antm...so that's not associating yourself with the show itself. He happend to choose someone who had appeared on the show. Seeing as how Tocarra had more pages than any other model, including Naomi, in the all-black issue of Vogue Italia I have to say that I doubt she was considered filler. Steven Meisel met Tocarra at a party and liked her and chose her for the magazine over the initial objections of the Editor-in-Chief of VI. Tocarra was never filler.

FYI...the winner is chosen from the start today.

I am not so sure about IMG being a good choice of agency. They were a part of the prize for Cycle 2 and never really seemed to do much for Yoanna. Their board is too big. I think a smaller agency, like Muse, would be a better choice for the winner.

I am interested to see if this changes the calibre of winner that America's Next Top Model select. It's been said that CoverGirl, and not the agency, has the largest say in who ultimately wins. I would think that neither VI nor Meisel would agree to this unless they had some say in who was chosen as the winner as well.

Tyra actually does have a good eye. Cycles 9 and 10 had some great talent (Lisa, Jenah, Chantal, Anya, Fatima, Katarzyna). It's just that the contestant with the best chance of making it as a model is never chosen as the winner.

According to my reprint edition of the all-black issue of Vogue Italia, that was the first ever issue of the magazine that sold out and had to be reprinted to meet demand. I wonder if Franca agreed to this with the idea that she might able to do the same with a pop culture edition with Tyra + model wanabee on the cover?

Someone who was at the auditions and went pretty far said that pretty much everyone that made the finals were 5'10 and over. Which sounds good because 5'8 girls with average faces really shouldn't be on the show like they have in the past.

To the show's credit, nearly all the contestants in recent years have been over 5'9 (not including the short cycle). The only exceptions I can think of are Fo, Gabrielle and Naduah, who all had strong faces to make up for their lack of height.

Gabrielle has stated in several post show interviews that she is 5'9". She looked to be about the same height as Alasia when they were standing in the bottom two together, and Alasia was listed in the casting episode as 5'9 3/4"
