THE AUSTRALIA'S Next Top Model finale was a catfight till the end - when the wrong winner was announced.

In a horror stuff-up, the announcement of the model series winner was muddled, with Murdoch announcing Kelsey Martinovich had beaten out fellow favourite Amanda Ware.

After a few seconds, a devastated Murdoch put a hand to her mouth and gasped: "Oh I'm so sorry Kelsey. There's been a mistake.''

There certainly had.

After much anticipation and days of controversy concerning a new voting strategy - audience not judges would choose - Martinovich was in fact the runner-up. Not the winner.

The willowly tall photographic teenager from the Gold Coast, Ware, was the winner and the screaming capacity live audience filling Luna Park's Big Top was stunned.

For a stunned and surreal 20 seconds, Martinovich had been the girl with the world at her feet. And then it was gone.



Her mother Michelle was, like everyone else in the room, stunned: "I just feel really sorry for her. It was awful. The way it happened was so bad.''

As compensation for the error, Foxtel last night dug deep and gave Martinovich a $25,000 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to New York.

Ware quickly went from deflated to overjoyed.

As a waterfall of fireworks fell around the three shocked women and the broadcast ended, Murdoch quickly left the stage and was seen in huddled conversation with producers.The crowded Big Top at Luna Park was filled with screaming fans, competition winners and celebrities.

Foxtel's Dirctor of Publicity Jamie Campbell said: "Tonight we saw the perils of live TV. At the time of the result announcement there was a miscommunication between the broadcast truck and the stage.

"Sarah handled what was a difficult situation with utmost professionalism and grace.

"Amanda and Kelsey were neck and neck in the voting all night, however the winner of Australia's Next Top Model 2010 is Amanda Ware.

"We apologise to Kelsey for the error, and FOXTEL will be sending her to New York as well as awarding her $25,000 as a prize. "

I think the epic fail kind of left them stunned.

I agree despite Sarah's "miscommunication" she's a great host! Plus FOX8 still haven't learn't their lesson about airing ausntm live! Hopefully this will give them a wake up call.
I'm glad Amanda won and she looked great in red (from the youtube video)! This years crop of girls have definitely been better than the last two and I hope next year will be better..much better.

Okay so someone in the comments section on that youtube video said that her brother was working on the set, and the stage manager, the guy who told sarah the "winner", was fired straight after.

That's probably the best photo she had. She can't model that's why Kelsey should have won.

Glad that Kelsey will get some prizes too! In the end being the runner-up penned out great for her.

Claudia and Edwina totally wanted to run her cover anyway lol... but i think it should be only Amanda's as she's the winner.

I think that's pointless of having a winner then. They're already giving Kelsey more cash and a all expenses paid trip to NY
If anything they can give Kelsey ATLEAST an editorial in HB than a cover, I feel pity on Amanda about her winning experience then again Kelsey being ripped off

I don't think this is fair to run the both covers,TBH.I mean I do feel sorry for Kelsey,but Amanda didn't do anything wrong.Its already not a good way to be announced as the winner and now she has to share some of her prizes with Kelsey........SERIOUSLY?I hope they'll only run Amanda's cover.

I don't think it was a publicity stunt at all. That's just far too cruel. I think handing Kelsey the extra money and a trip to NYC is just their quick scrambling to try to make the best of the situation. Doesn't the winner win $20,000 in cash, but also a $25,000 one-year contract with Levi's, making the total 'cash prize' $45,000?


ETA: Plus Rupert Murdoch's company (you know, Sarah Murdoch's father-in-law...) has a 25% stake in Foxtel. It's probably not a good idea to make her unhappy!

^ i concur! I think the 25000 cash and trip to new york is good enough, lets not sh*t on amandas spotlight any more than it already has been.
And they could have chosen a better photo imho

Kelsey's cover is way better than Amanda's. But I'm happy with Amanda winning. If this didn't happen, Kelsey won't go to New York and have $25,000.
