Balenciaga S/S 2009 Paris

After seeing the detail shots I'm starting to like it more and more, I think I'll have to see it in editorials to fully appreciate it. I guess I expected too much after last season which I immediately loved...

I still need to take it all in...

I think the problem I have with this collection is that it lacks the architectual strength that has been at Balenciaga for the past 4-5 seasons ( and of course before that when Cristobal was around ). I'm glad there has been so much interest in Nicholas' work this past week on the forum because I noticed so much of his own innovation has been re-hashed for this collection rather than relying on the Balenciaga archives. He's taking it in a completely new direction so I'll have to let that absorb for a bit. Maybe he's finally comfortable relying on his own strengths? The details are stunning and I'm so glad he's focussing on accessories and that Balenciaga is growing once again. I rememeber he mentioned this in an interview with Suzy Menkes last season. I don't really like the shoes, but every season, footwear is a hit-or-miss at Balenciaga for me.

now that I've seen the details....i want so much of it, even the meanswear!

I love the drapes!

Nothing really new though...

I wish Ghesquiere would go back to something raw and different like what he did for S/S 04 or F/W 04...

I find the shoes weird too...

The collection was genious, the set was just stupidity. It's like having some of the most interllectual clothes ever created walk into a seedy working class bowling alley!

When I first saw it I thought about Undercover!
I'm not dissapointed!
Although it's not how I was expecting it's amazing!
Every season Guesquiere prooves that he is the best and able to do ANYTHING.
Incredible clothes! The details are just Oh My God! :woot:
And the acessories, specially the purses are just great.
Love it! Can't wait to see it in the magazines.

Balenciaga is like quantum mechanics. No one gets it, but everything think it's the top of the pyramid regardless.

I was hopeing for better footwear too actually, but I don't mind these
thanks for posting the detial shots :flower:

It looks beautiful in the details but this collection will grow on me in time with print.

Some of the chest details reminds me of Louise Goldin? But I think it's ok really.

Really interesting fabric choice, a mix of 80s and contemporary.

I do like this. It just feels a lot like Prada SS08 in sci-fi to me.
Still, I love the shapes.

I happen to love it.
Techno-chic, fiber-optic, simple.
In a season where everyone else is still stubbornly trying to sell romance through textural florals, Ghesquiere makes it all about illusion and the fickleness of textiles themselves. Kind of brilliant.

What's with the belligerence towards the women's pants? They are completely rational.
